南傳法句經新譯 第廿四 愛欲品

  1. 1. 此放 生逸 他者 處縱 生欲 ,, 如增 猿長 覓如 林蔓 果藤 。,When a person lives heedlessly, his craving grows like a creeping vine. He runs now here & now there, as if looking for fruit: a monkey in the forest.
  2. 2. 諸人 諸人 憂於 憂於 苦此 苦此 易世 增世 除間 長間 ,, ,, 如頑 如頑 蓮劣 毗劣 葉欲 羅欲 落調 得纏 露服 雨縛 。, 。, If this sticky, uncouth craving overcomes you in the world, your sorrows grow like wild grass after rain.If, in the world, you overcome this uncouth craving, hard to escape, sorrows roll off you, like water beads off a lotus.
  3. 3. 勿如我 為掘今 魔毗為 屢羅眾 害草說 ,,, 如求掘 洪取除 淹香愛 蘆甜欲 葦根根 。,, To all of you gathered here I say: Good fortune.Dig up craving — as when seeking medicinal roots, wild grass — by the root.Dont let Mara cut you down — as a raging river, a reed — over & over again.
  4. 4. 祛伐 欲樹 不不 除斷 根根 ,, 苦雖 楚斬 猶猶 再再 生生 。,If its root remains undamaged & strong, a tree, even if cut, will grow back. So too if latent craving is not rooted out, this suffering returns again & again.
  5. 5. 見愛 心人 諸欲 思貪 蔓隨 為著 草處 欲欲 生流 染樂 ,, ,, 以蔓 愛三 慧草 潮十 斷芽 蕩六 其盛 癡愛 根長 人流 。, 。, He whose 36 streams, flowing to what is appealing, are strong: the currents — resolves based on passion — carry him, of base views, away.They flow every which way, the streams, but the sprouted creeper stays in place. Now, seeing that the creepers arisen, cut through its root with discernment.
  6. 6. 人快 迷樂 逐是 欲無 樂常 ,, 唯境 得生 受慾 生水 死長 。, Loosened & oiled are the joys of a person. People,bound by enticement, looking for ease: to birth & aging they go.
  7. 7. 比為 煩為 丘愛 惱愛 求欲 緊欲 愛所 束所 盡使 縛使 ,, ,, 應驚 長驚 離兔 受兔 於網 輪網 愛中 迴中 欲馳 苦馳 。, 。,Encircled with craving, people hop round & around like a rabbit caught in a snare. Tied with fetters & bonds they go on to suffering, again & again, for long.Encircled with craving, people hop round & around like a rabbit caught in a snare. So a monk should dispel craving, should aspire to dispassion for himself.
  8. 8. 觀復人 此生若 鬆愛捨 縛欲欲 人心林 ,,, 還轉孤 俗馳寂 復向山 受世林 縛間間 。, Cleared of the underbrush but obsessed with the forest, set free from the forest, right back to the forest he runs.人若捨欲林,孤寂山林間(出家意), runs right back to the same old chains! Come, see the person set free who復生愛欲心,轉馳向世間,觀此鬆縛人,還俗復受縛。
  9. 9. 斷耽無智貪鐵 縛欲著言戀木 無隨捨此妻與 著欲愛堅兒麻 者流欲縛財縛 ,,,,,, 解蜘斷鬆是智 脫蛛棄軟為者 一自求難大言 切織出解堅非 苦網離脫縛堅 。,。,。, Thats not a strong bond — so say the enlightened — the one made of iron, of wood, or of grass. To be smitten, enthralled, with jewels & ornaments, longing for children & wives: thats the strong bond, — so say the enlightened — one thats constraining, elastic, hard to untie.But having cut it, they — the enlightened — go forth, free of longing, abandoning sensual ease. Those smitten with passion fall back into a self-made stream, like a spider snared in its web. But, having cut it, the enlightened set forth, free of longing, abandoning all suffering & stress.
  10. 10. 解捨 脫過 於、 一現 切、 ,未 不來 再, 受而 生到 死達 。彼 岸 , Gone to the beyond of becoming, you let go of in front, let go of behind, let go of between.With a heart everywhere let-go, you dont come again to birth & aging.
  11. 11. 正調 貪邪 念服 欲念 滅諸 倍所 貪邪 增困 愛思 長擾 ,, ,, 斷常 彼熾 除住 自然 魔不 作求 束淨 堅欲 縛觀 縛樂 。, 。, For a person forced on by his thinking, fierce in his passion, focused on beauty, craving grows all the more. Hes the one who tightens the bond. But onewho delights in the stilling of thinking, always mindful cultivating a focus on the foul: Hes the one who will make an end, the one who will cut Maras bond.
  12. 12. 彼離 拔無 為欲 除畏 最無 生達 後貪 有究 身者 刺竟 ,, ,, 大通 此愛 智達 乃盡 大法 最無 丈次 後貪 夫第 身欲 。, 。, Arrived at the finish, unfrightened, unblemished, free of craving, he has cut away the arrows of becoming. This physical heap is his last. Free from craving, ungrasping, astute in expression,knowing the combination of sounds — which comes first & which after. Hes called a last-body greatly discerning great man.
  13. 13. 愛一我 盡切調 得無御 解染一 脫著切 ,,, 自一我 悟切了 誰已知 為出一 師離切 ?,,All-conquering, all-knowing am I, with regard to all things, unadhering. All-abandoning, released in the ending of craving:having fully known on my own, to whom should I point as my teacher?
  14. 14. 法法 喜施 勝勝 眾眾 樂施 ,, 愛法 盡味 滅勝 眾眾 苦味 。, A gift of Dhamma conquers all gifts; the taste of Dhamma, all tastes;a delight in Dhamma, all delights; the ending of craving, all suffering & stress.
  15. 15. 愚財 者富 為毀 財愚 富者 ,, 自不 害毀 亦求 害寂 他者 。,Riches ruin the man weak in discernment, but not those who seek the beyond. Through craving for riches the man weak in discernment ruins himself as he would others.
  16. 16. 供雜供雜供雜供雜 養草養草養草養草 無毀無毀無毀無毀 貪田癡田瞋田欲田 者地者地者地者地 ,,,,,,,, 能貪能愚能瞋能愛 得愛得癡得恚得欲 大毀大毀大毀大毀 果世果世果世果世 報人報人報人報人 。,。,。,。, Fields are spoiled by weeds; people, by passion.So whats given to those free of passion bears great fruit. Fields are spoiled by weeds; people, by aversion.So whats given to those free of aversion bears great fruit. Fields are spoiled by weeds; people, by delusion.So whats given to those free of delusion bears great fruit. Fields are spoiled by weeds; people, by longing. So whats given to those free of longing bears great fruit.
