Star Student <ul><li>Each student will be featured as the “Star Student” for a week. </li></ul><ul><li>I will send a packet home the week before it is your child’s turn to be star student. </li></ul><ul><li>Your child can complete the packet independently or with help from the family. </li></ul><ul><li>I encourage the children to decorate the packet with pictures, drawings, etc. </li></ul><ul><li>In the packet, there will be a page for you to write a note to your child explaining why they are a star to you. I will read this note to the class; please send it in with the completed packet on the Monday following the week it was sent home. </li></ul>

Birthdays <ul><li>If you would like to send in treats for birthdays please keep in mind the risk of allergies. </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Store bought treats only (Dunkin Donuts treats are acceptable) </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Must contain a label with the ingredients </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The first ingredient cannot be sugar. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Please do not send whole cakes. Pre-cut and individual pieces are much easier to pass out to the children. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>I will be in touch with parents of children who have summer birthdays so that we can set something up for those children. </li></ul></ul>

Book Orders <ul><li>Our class will be participating in </li></ul><ul><li>Scholastic Book orders </li></ul><ul><li>September book order is due Wednesday, September 23rd </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Ordering is voluntary. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Our class will earn bonus points which I will put toward buying new books for our library. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Book orders are a better bargain than in stores. </li></ul></ul>

Highlights Magazine <ul><li>Yellow slip on desk. </li></ul><ul><li>Please fill this out and send back to school. </li></ul><ul><li>Even if you choose not to buy a subscription to Highlights, our class will receive benefits for just getting a “no” response. </li></ul><ul><li>Thank you!! </li></ul>
  19. 19. Parent Volunteers <ul><li>Irwin School encourages parental involvement by allowing volunteers to come into the classroom to assist our students </li></ul><ul><li>If you are interested in becoming involved, please let me know. </li></ul>

Field Trips <ul><li>Second grade will be going to the Battleview Orchards in Freehold on October 23 rd . </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Children will eat lunch before leaving for the trip. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Leave Irwin at 11:45 AM </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Tour from 12:30-2:00 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Return by 2:45 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Cost: $6 per person </li></ul></ul><ul><li>Room parents have priority when choosing parent volunteers to attend trips. </li></ul>
