  • 16. Case Studies
  • 17. Capgemini Cloud Case Study 1 Financial Services Issues Tools and Artifacts  Client CIO wanted to realize the CO savings through adoption of cloud platforms for long tail apps supported by his team. But the challenge was to figure out which part of his current landscape should be targeted for the migration to balance risk and maximizing the TCO savings.  Pockets of awareness in the IT organization around Force.com and Workday but client wanted to avoid AWS in the short term as they wanted to focus on PaaS Solution Application Inventory Technology stack Business Growth Heat Map Risk Analysis DR & Backup Capabilities Transformation Initiatives To-Be Application Landscape Capgemini conducted a Capgemini Cloud assessment for 225 apps to determine which of these apps could be targeted for PaaS and specifically Force.com:  Identified 30% of the apps (59 apps) surveyed for PaaS and specific fit to Force.com use cases  Developed a two stage roadmap with the customer for moving to Force.com that identified TCO savings of 35% for phase 1 and 40% for phase 2. The first phase was for 20 apps followed by the migration of the rest 39 apps for a 3 year savings of 38%  Worked with the client to develop a licensing solution for pilot phase with Salesforce.com to allow customer to show some return in Year 1 Benefits  Identified 3 year savings of ~ $ 12M after calculating one time migration costs and license costs  Identified consolidation opportunities of multiple apps to allow deferred risk roadmap with apps being migrated in a 2 phase model  Identified opportunities to move legacy applications to SFDC platform  Identified technology and platform standardization opportunities across the landscape Capgemini Cloud Assessment – Strategy to Results | November 2013 Copyright © 2013 Capgemini. • 18. Capgemini Cloud Case Study 2 Oil & Gas Industry Issues Tools and Artifacts  Client CIO is new to organization and looking forward to have a better understanding of the current landscape  No current application inventory hampering decision making ability and transparency of IT spending across business units  Lack of understanding of underlying risks associated with the portfolio and transformation opportunities Solution Application Inventory Technology stack Business Growth Heat Map Risk Analysis DR & Backup Capabilities Transformation Initiatives To-Be Application Landscape Capgemini conducted a Cloud assessment to determine transformation opportunity and to identify any underlying risks and corresponding mitigation:  Carried out an exhaustive data gathering exercise to create a current application inventory  Focused on doing a thorough risk assessment on over 8 different risk dimensions with specific focus on Disaster Recovery and Back Up  Analyzed landscape from technical and functional consolidation perspectives  Identified set of apps not required by business which can be decommissioned for potential savings Benefits     Identified savings of ~ $ 6 million from multiple transformation opportunities Identified consolidation opportunities of multiple ERPs with potential savings of ~$ 1.5 Million/year Identified 11 applications for retirement contributing to ~ $1.5 million/year Identified multiple risks associated with landscape with specific focus on Disaster recovery & Back up capability  Identified opportunities to move legacy applications to SFDC platform  Identified technology and platform standardization opportunities across the landscape Capgemini Cloud Assessment – Strategy to Results | November 2013 Copyright © 2013 Capgemini. • 19. Capgemini Cloud Case Study 3 Pharma Industry Issues Tools and Artifacts Client was looking for opportunities to simplify the application landscape with the goals to:  Identify opportunities for 15% TCO reduction  Reduce the number of applications and streamline the vendors  Align the application portfolio with business strategies Solution Landscape Overview Business Process Capability Map Risk Mitigation strategy Cost Reduction Strategy Proposed Future State – BI Transformation Road Map  Analyzed the portfolio of ~ 300 applications from different perspectives to identify opportunities for application and vendor consolidation, application decommissioning and replacement  Also highlighted risks at the portfolio and application level which can constraint future growth  Refined current IT roadmap in strategic areas to address aforesaid issues  Prioritized different identified opportunities in a time-boxed manner for MSD to implement it Benefits  Cloud identified >25% in savings compared to target of 15%  15%+ reduction in number of apps in the portfolio  Savings were identified through a range of strategies including: Consolidation, retirement, vendor consolidation, Rightshoring and operational excellence  90% of savings through consolidation, 7% through simplification and the remaining through other strategies  Key consolidation opportunities in functional areas like CRM and BI having 45% of apps identified Capgemini Cloud Assessment – Strategy to Results | November 2013 Copyright © 2013 Capgemini. • 20. Capgemini Cloud Case Study 4 CPG Industry Issues Approach and Tools  Key IT KPI, reported to the board, is the absolute number of applications used to support Client‟s Target Operating Model (TOM) – the number is required to halve between 2012 and 2017  The business required confidence that the legacy application estate could be reduced and aligned to the deployment of a global SAP template Solution Application to process capture Management dashboard Logical to physical application mapping  Apply powerful process-to-application analysis toolset to develop in-depth understanding of degree to which applications support business priorities  4500 applications were assessed against 1100 level 3 business services across 5 global regions  Recommendations included identification of quick wins and phased annual reduction and consolidation opportunities  Transition roadmaps constructed in support of transformational journey Candidate opportunity prioritisation Application transition map Project dashboard Benefits     Fully populated and accurate application catalogue aligned to target operating model Up to 30% of deployed applications found not to be supporting any business activity Transformational journey to meet 5 year 50% reduction target defined and understood Increased likelihood of success in landing target architecture, including global SAP deployment, in legacy estate Capgemini Cloud Assessment – Strategy to Results | November 2013 Copyright © 2013 Capgemini.
