Exam Info Brochure 09 - Presentation Transcript

    1. Exam week is Monday 1 June to Friday 5  June (inc). All students in Years 7,8,9,10 and 12 will  have examinations in all curriculum subjects aside from PSHE and PE. The purpose of the exams is to gain  summative assessment data on students’ understanding & application of key topics, concepts and skills covered this year. These data will then be used to  complement the formative assessment data subject teachers have gathered throughout the year so that clear targets for student growth can be developed and included in end of year reports. Data from these examinations will also be  very helpful in guiding appropriate student placement in any ability groupings we may need next academic year.
    2. Another supplementary purpose is to provide  valuable practise in examination conditions for our students. A separate summary of examination results will  go home with end of year reports and to avoid confusion with the current assessment scales, exam performance should be expressed as %. With the exception of Art, ICT, Drama and  Music, please plan for ‘paper & pen’ style examinations – i.e.: a single assessed piece of work completed in a controlled environment over a predetermined time period where expectations of student behaviour are similar to those we might find in the current IGCSE or IB exam rooms. Art, Drama, Music and ICT may require a  ‘practical’ test in addition to (or instead of) paper & pen test. This is fine, so long as it is conducted under examination conditions and within the week assigned to end of year exams. Languages may require a speaking and/or  listening test in addition to the written paper. This is fine, so long as it is conducted under examination conditions and within the week assigned to end of year exams.
    3. All examination papers must be  of good quality (i.e.: word processed). Students must be provided with a  revision list by Friday 22 May. Any problems should be addressed to me dflint@eisp.cz in the first instance. Thank you for your help and support with the examinations. David Flint May 09
