BIILS, HILDA and the JISC infoNet Impact Calculator BIILS, HILDA and the JISC infoNet Impact Calculator Presentation Transcript

    • BIILS: BENEFITS OF INVESTMENT IN ICT LANDSCAPE STUDY & HILDA: HIGH LEVEL DOMAIN MAPPING & JISC IMPACT CALCULATOR SOAPOpera Project 22 nd January 2010, by Adam Watson
    • BIILS: What is it?
      • JISC funded project by the University of Strathclyde
      • Completed in 2008
      • Its aim is to identify the methods and measures used by institutions to assess and evaluate their investments in ICT.
      • Outputs:
        • Survey , used to find background information
        • Case Studies , for further detailed information
        • Landscape Report , summary of current approaches in HE
        • Project Evaluation Toolkit , overview of benefits of ICT and the methods to evaluate those benefits.
    • BIILS: How can it help SOAPOpera?
      • The use of the Project Evaluation Toolkit can be used to identify appropriate methodologies to enable us to deliver the Costings Report output of the SOAPOpera Project, including costings models, detailing baseline costs of running current systems; impact, cost and risk of change and other issues to be addressed.
    • HILDA: What is it?
      • JISC funded project by the University of Manchester
      • Its aim is to identify and map high-level functions taking account of more detailed process mapping activities which have been already been completed.
      • Includes Programme Specification Domain Map (P-SPEX) and Admissions Domain Map(ADOM)
      • The model comprises the various functions which are undertaken in a university, which are then broken down into processes.
    • HILDA: How can it help SOAPOpera?
      • The domain map can be used to explore the e-framework by providing a view that is top-down, rather than bottom-up. That is, a view based on the work of a university rather than the technology to support that work.
      • The e-framework can provide an overview of how reusable components of the business processes can be integrated across the inter-connected activities involved in teaching, research, libraries, administration and IT functions
    • HILDA: Overview
    • Impact Calculator: What is it?
      • JISC infoNet Project Resource
      • Recommended by the FSD Programme Team
      • A calculator that can enable any project aiming to improve the management of records and information to capture and measure three distinct sets of data:
        • Performance information before completion
        • Performance information after completion
        • Costs of implementation
      • Resulting in an accurate calculation of its measurable benefits to be achieved that can be quantified in both monetary and non-monetary terms.
    • Impact Calculator : How can it help SOAPOpera?
      • Any move to SOA/EA needs to be proven to beneficial in terms of value to the business and cost.
      • The Impact Calculator can measure benefits to be achieved within the area of records and information management.
      • This will also help to deliver the Costings Report output of the SOAPOpera Project.
