Why social learning?
Learning together is much better than learning alone, because you can share mistakes (and avoid them) as well as best practices (and improve them)
In order to improve an effective collaboration, we have to improve socialization and communication among the learners

Obstacles to social learning
Loneliness of the online learner
When working online you are actually alone: the interaction with others is always mediated by the computer
Lack of "social awareness"
Low level of interaction among participants
Low motivation

Facilities for a social learning
We need to set up an environment tailored to address socialization and communications requirements

Possible solutions
Better tools and facilities for e-learning environments, allowing for easier user interaction
