      • Data spasial memiliki peran penting dalam setiap aktivitas pemerintah:
        • ~90% aktivitas pemerintah memiliki elemen spasial
        • ~65% aktivitas pemerintah menggunakan elemen spasial sebagai identifier utama.
      • Telah banyak institusi yang mengumpulkan dan mengelola berbagai macam data dan informasi spasial (geo-information) untuk memenuhi kebutuhan masing-masing  membentuk pulau-pulau geoinformasi ( islands of geo-information ).
      • Pengambilan keputusan yg efektif dalam pemerintahan memerlukan informasi spasial yg up-to-date dan akurat, yg menjelaskan situasi terkini yg terjadi .

      • Ketersediaan data, akses dan pemanfaatan terhadap data yg terpercaya, up-to-date dan akurat untuk mendukung proses pengambilan keputusan menjadi masalah utama saat ini.
        •  Menimbulkan implikasi negatif pada kualitas pengambilan keputusan yang berakibat pada rendahnya kualitas tindak lanjut yg perlu diambil.
      • Tidak satupun institusi yg memiliki data dan informasi lengkap untuk keperluan pengambilan keputusan di pemerintahan  data sharing merupakan sebuah keharusan.
      • Diperlukan pengaturan dan penggunaan teknologi yang tepat untuk mengatasi permasalahan data spasial untuk mendukung pengambilan keputusan yang cepat dan efektif  Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI).
