  5. 5. • Full members: • Associated members - European T&C research/technology/education/consulting organisations not members of Euratex, Textranet or AUTEX - European companies from textile/clothing & related industry sectors - European organisations from related research domains • Corresponding members - Europe-based organisations or individual experts with interest in textile research or innovation Membership Structure
  6. 6.  Networking o Finding knowledge or technology providers and potential collaboration partners at European level o Get direct access to EU research policy makers and programme managers o Present own pre-commercial developments to a European audience  Information Services o Timely and customised information and individual advice on EU research funding opportunities o Latest research and technology developments incl. results of EU research projects o General news on textile research, new projects, events… from across Europe The ETP essentially offers…

Textile Flagships for Europe • What is a Textile Flagship? – innovative textile material/technology + market combination – Addresses a concrete significant or highly ambitious societal challenge/problem -> linked HORIZON 2020 – Has the potential to radically change the way the challenge/problem is tackled today – Offers attractive market growth for EU T/C companies – Can be effectively driven by EU textile industry & research players 7 Flagships set up

Reach out to related sectors & EU networks/initiatives Ideas and drive come from us, partners are needed to implement October Conference 3. Draw up action plans for each Flagship Based on expert knowledge & surveys Work started, deadline Sept. 2013 2. Identify and agree on key challenges and priorities Launch of surveys in 5 Flagships Surveys completed and analysed 1.   9. 9. 7 Pilot Flagships (TFE) TFE5 - Innovative technical textiles for various marine applications and coastal protection Objectives: Establish more textile material use in marine markets (shipping, energy, aquaculture Identify most promising applications, involve maritime sector, Build consortia and look for funding (development + demo) Network: 36 registered experts
  10. 10. • Key facts: – Growing expert group: 36 members research & industry, – 3 meetings since Oct. 2012, – Expert survey to identify industry growth and research/technology priorities – Dialogue with EU Stakeholders: -Blue Growth and related -Waterborne TP www.waterborne-tp.org • Key topics: – Wave energy systems, Lightweight component – Tidal energy systems, desalination (filters, membrane) – Protections

How to realise the textile innovation potential in marine & coastal applications? • Bringing scientific/technological expertise, industry capacities and end users together: – at regional/national level: ZEETEX, Navaltex – at European level: Marine Textiles flagship • Realising collaborative research and demonstration projects in HORIZON 2020 ETP Flagship & ZEETEX

Example: ZEETEX - an interregional marine- maritime-textile cluster Interreg project: Flanders and French regions of Nord-Pas de Calais and Somme • Combines players from marine/maritime and textile sector • Goals: – to explore possibilities and to facilitate developments of innovative textile products for marine/maritime applications – to create a platform where the companies can meet in a structured way and find opportunities ETP Flagship & ZEETEX

Example: NAVALTEX - Italian cluster for textile innovation in naval applications • NAVALTEX brings together two sectors of excellence of Made- in-Italy: – Interior textiles sector – Naval and yachting sector • Goal: – Match and capitalise leading technologies from the demand and offer sides with the aim of launching cooperative R&D projects – Moderated working groups were organised dedicated to identifying needs and priorities • More than 30 companies involved in the matchmaking ETP Flagship & ZEETEX

Conclusions • Several “contact points” between Blue growth and textile sector: – Innovative textile solutions can enable solutions for key needs/bottlenecks in marine and coastal sectors – Marine and coastal sectors can offer interesting growth potential for EU technical textile companies Collaboration for larger impact, faster progres • From textile sector, Flagship’s special interest & cooperation in: – Contribution to (renewable) offshore energy infrastructure – Structural parts based on textile reinforced composites – Protection means (personal, coastal regions)
