its a very good idea to get tech out of the house. With major players in the gaming industry like Sony, Nintendo,PS3, Gameboy and so on coming of with its individual product line of Wii and wii games related to fitness. EA sports have also worked around a similar concept of gaming with fitness with its product EA sport Active for the PS line of products, which features 25 games depenent completely on motion sensors.
Further, Video games are not just a hobby anymore. These days, the Wii gaming system is being used for rehabilitation and patients are being healed through ’Wiihab.’ The Wii video game system is used in treating patients recovering from stroke, broken bones, combat injuries and surgery. The Wii gets people moving. It’s also great for motivating sensory stimulation. And best of all, people really enjoy it
so what better than having a lil fun while you work out and maybe also have a hot virtual instructor at your finger tips....WHO WOULDN’T WORK OUT...??
this 1 is a cent % hit idea.

Carbon isn’t necessarily as big an issue as it would appear. Firstly these consoles are being made anyway, so the implications there are not directly related to active gaming.

I was involved in organizing a transatlantic exergame competition and a few months after that event we looked at the carbon cost of holding this virtual soccer tournament compared with if it were a real soccer match.

For our part we cost 6 lbs of carbon per participant, but the real soccer match would have run to 2,800 lbs! I’d say that was a PRO for exergaming!

i gave a small suggestion re: move the tech out of the house! .....

PRO: fight sedentary lifestyles with interactive physical reaction - also, for education: learn while you burn [calories]
CON: global warming via excess carbon/energy burn with electronic devices; manufacturing and adoption issues

In 2002, I was in the lab that created a driving simulator for rehabilitating drivers who were disabled from auto accidents...Around 2 years later, we experimented with augmented reality [beyond Jobe of the Lawnmower Man] by attaching Thrustmaster and Logitech control surfaces to Nautilus equipment....

There is a whole other level beyond Wii out there.... And plenty of research supporting the use of Active Gaming the right way. I also agree that people need to go outside and play more but Active Gaming may just be a gateway to things like traditional play! We have a simple choice right now - embrace the use of gaming in non-traditional gaming formats.

Video games consume not only one’s life and one’s ability to react with sporadic nature but also vast amounts energy in a fashion that is totally unsustainable. It would require many planet earths to provide a Wii for every house in the world. Put the controller down, go outside and start a conversation with a tree!
