What is iOS 5? • Released yesterday: Next major version of iOS for: – iPhone 3GS and above – iPod Touch 3rd Gen and above – All iPads • 200+ new features, including – iCloud, iMessage, Notification Center – Newsstand, Reminders – Siri (voice dictation, commands) for iPhone 4Ss • No longer requires a computer for – Activation, Upgrades, Backups via Wi-Fi 4

  • 6. iOS 5 and the Enterprise: Key Features iCloud – Automatic store and sync of your music, photos, documents, and more across your devices. iMessage – SMS-like service which uses data plan only, supported on all iOS 5 devices (even iPod Touch). PC Free – No longer need a computer to own an iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch. Activate, Sync, Backup and Upgrade your device wirelessly. MDM enhancements 6

Enterprise Features in Depth: iCloud• Core iOS Apps – Sync MobileMe Mail, Contacts, and Calendars across devices – Sync Reminders, Bookmarks, Notes• Photo Stream – Automatically uploads pictures taken to iCloud – Syncs to all devices – Stores last 1000 photos taken on any device• Document Sync – For apps that use iCloud, synchronizes docs across all devices including Macs/PCs – iWork will be the first mainstream app using iCloud• Data (Key/Value) Sync – Synchronizes key/value pair information within an app – Generally used for settings, state information, etc.• Backup – Over the air backup of device, using Wi-Fi 7
  • 8. Enterprise Features in Depth: iCloud • Significant productivity benefits – Data is always available, wherever you are – Available for 3rd party developers, Apple quality • By default, syncs data only within a single iTunes account • MaaS360 control available 8

Enterprise Features in Depth: iMessage• Similar to SMS – Able to send text, pictures, and video• But better for users – Send to phone number, or Apple ID – Automatically picks SMS or iMessage SMS Text – Encrypted in transit, synced to all devices – Delivery and read receipts – Typing indicators – Works on all iOS 5 devices• Impact: Security team should study iMessage the impact of iMessage on any message retention requirements 9

Cutting the cord, going PC Free • iOS 4 devices heavily reliant on iTunes – To activate, needed a Mac/PC with iTunes installed – Businesses needed to ensure iTunes was on all computers with iOS devices • iOS 5 supports over the air: – Activation – Software upgrades – Backup and restore – Sharing of documents and data • Significantly eases initial iOS device activation – Mac/PC with iTunes no longer required to deploy • Significantly expands uses of iOS devices – iOS devices can now replace PCs – The PC becomes another device (vs. a requirement) 10

MDM Enhancements – Policy Mgmt • iCloud control – Backup, Doc sync, Photostream, Key/Value sync • Email security improvements – Sandboxing of email accounts – Prevent 3rd party apps from sending email • Support for Wi-Fi proxy settings MaaS360 can restrict moving mail • Voice + Data Roaming Controls to other accounts – Enable or Disable roaming centrally in MaaS360 – Note: User can still change setting, however 11

MDM Enhancements – App Management • App distributed via MDM become “managed” – Can allow/prevent app backup to iTunes or iCloud – Can delete app and data on demand – Can remove app during “selective wipe” – Automatically remove app if MDM profile is deleted by the user • Remotely push apps – Does require end user acceptance • Improved user experience for VPP code redemption 12
