CHANGE IS GOODDOWNTOWN YOUR Great FERNDALE American Main Street ™ In spring of 2010, Downtown Ferndale was honored with the Great American Main Street Award, an accolade from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the highest achievement a downtown can claim. Only two Michigan cities have won before and Downtown Ferndale was the ﬁrst ever in Oakland County to bring home the GAMSA.For sure, local stakeholders whooped and hollered and jumped for joy. But the joy wasnot so much about winning. It was about celebrating a downtown that lives and breathesand thinks like the people who worked so hard to change it. It was about acknowledginga job well done in creating a place of endless possibilities. It was about the “at last”results of years of hard work and dedication to a city that is now the nation’s bestexample of what can happen when a community pulls together.The work, of course, goes on and there is still much to do. Goals and objectivesare revisited yearly and long term plans guide the district toward its future.The Ferndale Downtown Development Authority continues to follow the OaklandCounty Main Street Program for economic redevelopment.
