  17. 17. If Christians took this absolutely literally there would soon be a class of saintly paupers, owning nothing, and another of prosperous idlers and thieves. It is not this that Jesus is seeking, but a readiness among his followers to give and give and give. The Christian should never refrain from giving out of a love for his possessions. “ ”~ Leon Morris, NT Scholar
  18. 18. And as you wish that others would Luke 6:31 do to you, do so to them.
  19. 19. If you love those who love you, what Luke 6:32-33 benefit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. And if you do good to those who do good to you, what benefit is that to you? For even sinners do the same.
  20. 20. And if you lend to those from whom Luke 6:34 you expect to receive, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, to get back the same amount....
  21. 21. But love your enemies, and do Luke 6:35 good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.

  23. 23. Be merciful, even as your Father Luke 6:36 is merciful.
  24. 24. We are to love like this because our Heavenly Father loves like this.
  25. 25. “There are two particularly astonishing things about these instructions. First, their simplicity: they are obvious, clear, direct, and memorable. Second, their scarcity. How many people do you know who really live like this?”

  33. 33. “We didn’t expect this kind of treatment from most Christians because most Christians don’t act this way. But because of the fact that Jesus said ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’… these people are acting like real Christians. Both my wife and I love them for that, because they are actually putting their actions where their beliefs are.”
