  • Beginning E-mail
  • E-mail could be best understood if you compare it to regular mail.
  • Similarities
    • You need to write out an address to tell it where to go.
    • You have a mailbox that you can check daily.
    • Either way, you get junk mail.
    • In both cases, you have an address book where you keep addresses.
    • You can send someone pictures.
  • Differences
    • When you send e-mail, your message gets there within seconds.
    • You can send one message to multiple people.
    • You can check your mailbox where ever there is internet access!
  • E-Mail Basics
    • An e-mail address always has two parts.
    • [email_address]
    This is the username. It identifies “who” This second part tells “where.”
  • Free Web-Based Email Services
    • Yahoo Mail – http://mail.yahoo.com
    • Hotmail/MSN Mail – http:// www.hotmail.com
  • Email Through Your ISP
    • Most local internet service providers offer a webmail feature so you can view your email while away from your computer
    • Examples:

      • http://webmail.geetel.net/src/login.php
      • http://mail.accs.net
      • http://webmail.remconline.net
