  • 1. IP address  Internet Protocol address atau ringkasannya IP address juga dikenali sebagai logical address.  IP address pada setiap host boleh ditukar kepada sebarang nilai lain pada bila-bila masa sekiranya perlu.  IP address digunakan di dalam format dotted decimal.  Nilai bit atau byte digunakan bagi pemprosesan data bagi setiap komputer  Nilai bit dikaitkan dengan nilai elektrik di mana bit 1 adalah ON dan bit 0 adalah OFF.
  • 2. IP address  Nilai bit terlalu kecil, maka ia dikumpulkan sebagai satu kumpulan sebanyak 8 bit.  Nilai 8 bit adalah bersamaan dengan 1 byte.  Terdapat 2 versi IP  IP version 4 – 32 bit addressing  IP version 6 – 128 bit addressing
  • 3. IP address  Terdiri dari empat nombor (octet) yang dipisahkan oleh period atau dot 01010101000001011011111100000001  32 bits dibahagi kepada 4 octet menggunakan format dotted decimal. First Octet Second Octet Third Octet Forth Octet 01010101.00000101.10111111.00000001 IP version 4
  • 4. IP address  Setiap host / komputer memerlukan IP address bagi membolehkan ia disambungkan ke sesuatu rangkaian atau Internet.  Setiap IP address yang dikonfigur mestilah unik bagi setiap host/komputer di dalam setuatu rangkaian LAN.  Terdapat dua cara IP address dikonfigur iaitu : Manual  Automatik  IP address dilaksanakan di Network Layer (Layer 3) di dalam OSI Layers
