  1. 1. FORGIVING THOSE WHO HURT YOU
  2. 2. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive him, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your sins. Mark 11:25
  3. 3. WHO HURT YOU?
  4. 4. We are part of the same body. Stop lying and start telling each other the truth. Don’t get so angry that you sin. Don’t go to bed angry and don’t give the devil a chance. Ephesians 4:25-32
  5. 5. If you are a thief, quit stealing. Be honest and work hard, so you will have something to give to people in need. Stop all your dirty talk. Say the right thing at the right time and help others by what you say. Ephesians 4:25-32
  6. 6. Don’t make God’s Spirit sad. The Spirit makes you sure that someday you will be free from your sins. Stop being bitter and angry and mad at others. Don’t yell at one another or curse each other or ever be rude. Ephesians 4:25-32
  7. 7. Instead, be kind and merciful, and forgive others, just as God forgave you because of Christ. 32 Ephesians 4:25-32
  8. 8. ARE YOU ‘MARA’?
  9. 9. CHARACTERISTICS OF BITTER PEOPLE
  10. 10. BITTER PEOPLE ARE ARCHEOLOGISTS, ALWAYS DIGGING UP THE PAST.
  11. 11. BITTER PEOPLE REMEMBER INTRICATE DETAILS BECAUSE THEY KEEP A RECORD OF WRONGS.
  12. 12. BITTER PEOPLE ARE TRIGGERED LESS BY THE OFFENSE AND MORE BY THEIR LOVE FOR THE OFFENDER.
  13. 13. BITTER PEOPLE ARE PRONE TO BE SELF-RIGHTEOUS SINCE THEY ARE THE PERCEIVED VICTIM.
  14. 14. FIVE WAYS PEOPLE BECOME BITTER
  15. 15. YOU WRONGLY THINK THAT THEY HAVE SINNED AGAINST YOU.
  16. 16. SOME OF YOU HAVE UNREASONABLE AND/OR UNSPOKEN EXPECTATIONS THAT ARE UNMET.
  17. 17. THEY REBUKED YOU, AND YOU WERE HARD-HEARTED, AND YOU WERE HURT, SO YOU’RE BITTER AGAINST THEM.
  18. 18. YOU ARE JEALOUS OF THEM
  19. 19. YOU’VE BEEN SINNED AGAINST.

  38. 38. FORGIVENESS IS LEAVING ULTIMATE JUSTICE IN GOD’S HANDS.
  39. 39. FORGIVENESS IS WANTING GOOD FOR YOUR OFFENDER.
  40. 40. SEVEN THINGS FORGIVENESS IS NOT
  41. 41. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO DENYING THAT SIN OCCURRED OR DIMINISHING ITS EVIL.
  42. 42. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO ENABLING SIN.
  43. 43. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO NECESSARILY A RESPONSE TO AN APOLOGY.
  44. 44. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO COVERING UP CRIMES COMMITTED AGAINST US.
  45. 45. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO FORGETTING.
  46. 46. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO TRUST.
  47. 47. FORGIVENESS IS NOT NO RECONCILIATION.
  48. 48. WHY SHOULD I FORGIVE?
  49. 49. BECAUSE UNFORGIVENESS HURTS ME.
  50. 50. Make sure that no one misses out on God’s wonderful kindness. Don’t let anyone become bitter and cause trouble for the rest of you. Hebrews 12:15
  51. 51. BECAUSE I’LL NEED FORGIVENESS AGAIN.
  52. 52. If you forgive others for the wrongs they do to you, your Father in heaven will forgive you. But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins. Matthew 6:14-15
  53. 53. The king called the first official back in and said, “You’re an evil man! When you begged for mercy, I said you did not have to pay back a cent. Don’t you think you should show pity to someone else, as I did to you?” Matthew 18:32-35
  54. 54. The king was so angry that he ordered the official to be tortured until he could pay back everything he owed. That is how my Father in heaven will treat you, if you don’t forgive each of my followers with all your heart. Matthew 18:32-35
  55. 55. HOW CAN I FORGIVE SOMEONE WHO HURT ME?
  56. 56. PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HURT YOU.
  57. 57. PRAY FOR THOSE WHO HURT YOU.
  58. 58. You have heard people say, “Love your neighbors and hate your enemies.” But I tell you to love your enemies and pray for anyone who mistreats you. Matthew 5:43-44
  59. 59. FORGIVE AS YOU’VE BEEN FORGIVEN.
  60. 60. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13
