What is Medicaid?<br />Medicaid is a medical assistance program for low income adults. <br />Medicaid covers a wide range of medical services, including doctor visits, hospital care, mental health services, prescriptions and rehabilitation services. <br />This program is administered by Fairfax County Department of Family Services.<br />
  3. 3. Qualifications<br />The individual must:<br />Be over the age of 65, Blind, Disabled, or in a Nursing Home <br />Have income that is less than or equal to 80% of the Federal Poverty Level<br />Be a resident of Virginia<br />Have countable resources less than $2000 for an individual or $3000 for a couple<br />Be a US Citizen or Qualified Alien<br />Medicare or private health insurance will not prevent you from being eligible for Medicaid. <br />If you have medical expenses, you might be eligible for Medicaid regardless of your income. <br />The home in which you live is not counted as a resource and does not affect your eligibility for Medicaid (unless you are institutionalized).<br />

How to apply:<br />You may call or visit any of our Department of Family Services offices to apply for Medicaid. <br />Our office hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. <br />You may also submit an application by mail, fax, or you can apply online at: https://jupiter.dss.state.va.us/VDAMedicaid/info/info.faces<br />
  5. 5. Cost:<br />Most adults in Medicaid have small copayments for some services. <br />The copayments are usually $1.00 to $3.00 for each service. <br />The copayment for in-patient hospitalization is $100.00. <br />A medical provider cannot refuse to treat you if you are unable to pay the copayment, but you are still responsible for the copayment.<br />
