  • Based on the four dimensions of growth outlined earlier, the total addressable market for outsourcing and offshoring has been estimated. The addressable market is the revenue opportunity available to offshore services providers after cost savings on offshored spend have been achieved. This therefore includes the offshoreable component from companies’ spending, both internal (e.g., work being done in internal IT departments in the USA) and external (outsourced to US-based providers). The addressable markets for offshoring include technology services (IT), business services (BPO) and engineering services (ESO). The offshore Information Technology (IT) market includes enterprise IT and technical services provided through an offshore-centric delivery model involving both offshore and onsite work (typically, Indian IT companies do around 25 to 30 per cent of their work onsite). The Business Process Offshoring (BPO) market includes running business processes offshore. Engineering Services Offshoring includes mechanical product design, plant engineering, embedded software design and product R&D services performed offshore. The growth in the addressable market by 2020 highlights several trends: An estimated 80 per cent of the growth in the addressable market will come from segments that have not been traditional markets for the industry The addressable market for business services will be twice that of technology services by 2020 The BRIC outsourcing opportunity will equal the size of the core export market today. That said, serving the emerging markets will require additional capabilities and business models. These implications will bare discussed in detail in the section ‘ Competing with new business models’.
  • Based on the four dimensions of growth outlined earlier, the total addressable market for domestic outsourcing and global sourcing has been estimated. The addressable market is the revenue opportunity available to global sourcing services providers after cost savings on globally sourced spend have been achieved. This therefore includes the globally sourceable component from companies’ spending, both internal (e.g., work being done in internal IT departments in the USA) and external (outsourced to US-based providers). The addressable markets for global sourcing includes technology services (includes IT), business services (includes BPO) and engineering services (includes ESO). The global sourcing technology services market includes enterprise IT and technical services provided through a global delivery model involving both onsite and globally sourced work (typically, Indian technology services companies do around 25 to 30 per cent of their work onsite). The business services market includes running business processes in global sourcing locations. Engineering Services Outsourcing includes mechanical product design, plant engineering, embedded software design and product R&D services performed in global sourcing locations. The growth in the addressable market by 2020 highlights several trends: An estimated 80 per cent of the growth in the addressable market will come from segments that have not been traditional markets for the industry The addressable market for business services will be more than twice that of technology services by 2020 The BRIC domestic outsourcing opportunity will be close to the size of the core export market today.
