    • Nihil - Nothing.
    • ism - A suffix indicating an act, a process, the result of an act or a process, a state; also, a characteristic.
  • 3. What is Nihilism? Philosophy
    • An extreme form of skepticism that denies all existence.
    • A doctrine holding that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated.
  • 4. What is Nihilism? (definition)
    • Rejection of all distinctions in moral or religious value and a willingness to repudiate all previous theories of morality or religious belief.
  • 5. Interesting Historical Fact
    • A revolutionary movement of mid 19th-century Russia that scorned authority and tradition and believed in reason, materialism, and radical change in society and government through terrorism and assassination took on the name “Nihilists.”
  • 6. Is Freddy a Nihilist?
    • Most philosophers believe that Nietzsche (or as Samantha calls him: Freddy) was a philosophical nihilist. They are wrong. Freddy believed in freedom of the will and art’s ability to communicate or encourage free will.

    • His belief does have its basis in Nihilism. As per the Simpsons and Philosophy, “At it’s heart reality is so awful-a ceaseless, blind, driving, ultimately aimless, and therefore an unsatisfied and suffering will-that to see into this heart to understand the true nature of existence is debilitating… The curse of human beings is to be aware of their situation.”
