Cyber Zed Shed presentation from the ACRL 14th National Conference in Seattle, WA, March 2009
Presenters:
Robin Sinn, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, United States
Elizabeth Uzelac, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD, United States
Description:
One suite of integrated technology solutions have enabled us to address the disparate issues of electronic resources display, prioritizing interactivity in our subject guides, and embedding library search tools in a wide variety of online environments, including personal webpages and course management systems. Specific improvements are many: Subject librarians are empowered to organize both the database lists and subject guides at the same time, using one technology to power the other and streamlining workflow in a substantial move toward efficiency. Alterations made to the MetaLib/Xerxes powered cross-searchable database lists automatically populate subject guides (LibGuides), webpages, course management systems, and any other tool that has made use of the Xerxes-powered embed feature. The new interface for our electronic resources now much more effectively presents interactive and cross-searchable database lists. Lastly, we have gained the ability to embed the interface of our most important tools in nearly any online environment, extending the productivity of our core research tools (the library catalog and MetaLib) through the introduction of lightweight embed codes made familiar by popular websites such as YouTube. less
