    2. Climate change and its impacts on Africa
      • Climate change will affect signifcantly all the major economic sectors of African countries as well as important ecosystems on which the local populations depend for their livelihoods
      • Refer to chapter 9 (Africa) of the 4th IPCC assessment report (working group II) http://www.ipcc.ch
    3. Limited human and institutional capacities
      • The human society (individuals as well as institutions) will have to cope with the negative impacts of CC
      • Yet their capacities to adapt to CC and enhance their resilience is limited
      • Human, technical, financial resources limited as well as information
    4. What ENDA try to do?
      • In line with its strategic axis relative to the implementation of the major environmental agreements
      • Strengthen capacities at different levels of the society
      • Develop capacities inside the organization

        • C3D pedagogic tool ( http://energie.enda.sn and www.c3d-unitar.org/c3d )
        • Tools for vulnerability and adaptation assessments
        • Developed since 2005 (Cds then online)
        • Will be updated this year

      • Together with training of trainers sessions (1 per year; the last one 25-27 july 2007 attended by 29 participants from 14 african countries)

      • Contribution to the WeADAPT platform together with SEI
      • Short videos on climate change and its potential impacts in local communities (presented at the Development and Climate Days, 9-10 december 2007, Bali)

      • The fellowship programme
        • Initiated in 2007; about 3,000 US$ (april to october 2007)
        • Three fellows
          • Betinbaye Yamingue (Chad) : « Perception of common risks of climate change and desertification in the Malo-Gaga rural community »
          • Fall Samba (Senegal): « Vulnerability and adaptation strategies to climate change of rural households : a simulation using a bioeconomic model in three villages of the peanut basin »
          • Ogouwale Euloge (Benin): « Evaluation of the impacts of climate change on lake Nokoue ecosystems »
        • Reports available
        • Will continue this year and included in the C3D tool

    10. Strengthening capacities at different levels of the society
      • The ACCCA (Advancing Capacities to support Climate Change Adapation) programme
        • Initially 7 projects in Africa. 5 more funded by IDRC (70,000 US$)
        • ENDA is one of the main partner for Africa
        • Technical assistance, mainly in risk communication
        • Pilot actions to define adaptation strategies in key sectors
        • Platform : www.accca.org
        • Will continue this year and included in the C3D tool

      • The guidebook for local decision makers
        • Based on different workshops in Senegal, Mauritania, Mali and Benin
        • Still in progress

        • 5 information sheets on climate change and its impacts (on women, economic sectors and trade in Africa)
        • Ebulletins : first prepared for the COP12 (Nairobi) then extended through a mailing network (ex: adaptation)

        • Adaptation to climate change and water esources management in West Africa (21-24 february 2007)
        • 34 participants from 14 countries
        • In partnership with SEI, UNESCO and NCAP
