  1. 1. ROTARY INTERNATIONAL THEME IN 2009-2010 OFFICIAL WEEKLY PUBLICATIO OF THE ROTARY CLUB OF MAKATI SA LORE ZO PROGRAMME PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE ROWENA “Jing” SARAO Call to Order Pres. Jing Sarao Invocation We just entered our 3rd week for this Rotary year and the Dir. Johnny Tan entire Rotary District 3830 is in full swing with inductions, National Anthem seminars, conferences and projects underway. Our club PP Nini Layug likewise is fully engaged either with other clubs or preparing for our own key projects and our 17th Induction. Introduction of Visiting Rotarians and Guests Last week our club co-hosted the Judicial Seminar in PP Maridel Villavicencio Paranaque under Vocational Service; co-hosted the Tuloy President’s Time Sa Don Bosco children’s performance in CCP mini-theatre Pres. Jing Sarao as part of Youth programs; and the raising of funds by Gilda Lim for Environment causes. We also had a Introduction of memorandum of agreement signed with RC Makati Guest Speaker Poblacion to be sister clubs. The club also commenced Dir. Marie O’Connor preparations for the forthcoming induction on August 7. Guest Speaker Fellowship followed with the birthday celebration of Annabella Charter President Rennie Andrews at Europa Dance Morales-Chan Studio. Adjournment This week we are once again focused on preparations for Pres. Jing Sarao the Induction but with a guest speaker, Ms. Annabella Program Moderator Morelos-Chan, who will talk about processes and PP Mari Lacson mechanism used to raise funds for worthy causes. INVOCATION JULY Lord we praise and thank You for all the blessings 06 Philip Chien you have showered upon our family, friends and 14 Rennie Andrews love ones. Thank you for the gift of Rotary where 31 Marietha Holmgren we can offer our time, talents and treasures so others who have less in life may share your blessings. It set the stage for other celebrants to follow. PREPARATION FOR THE INDUCTION Thursday, July 09, 2009, San Lorenzo Village, Barangay Hall, Makati. The club went in full swing as members, guests and dance partners practiced under the supervision of choreographer Mr. Louie Tan. You can all expect an induction filled with beautiful bodies moving by the power of music.

A Philippine based consulting company engaged in technology transfer, niche services and economic development initiatives in the private, public and non-profit sectors in Developing Countries. 1982-1994: Chairman/President of Austin Construction Steel Co. Inc.(co-founder) A Texas corporation that supplied steel to the construction and hi-tech industries. It ranked second in Central Texas with a 7-state market. Regularly cited for corporate and manufacturing excellence, it was consistently profitable in multiples of the national industry average. Innovative policies such as the employment of ex-offenders and recovering addicts placed it in State of Texas list of Top 10 Companies in Texas for Employee Benefits along with TI, Scott and White Hospital and others despite it being a small corporation. 1972-1979: Secretary/Treasurer of Adexco Resources Corporation (co-founder) A Liechtenstein corporation with international holdings and funding support for projects and trust fund management. Involved in the historic first purchase attempt of the Libyan oil after the break up of the international corporate cartel control of Middle Eastern oil in 1972. 1970-1988: Vice President/Treasurer of Overseas Management Advisory Services (co- founder) A closely held corporation in investments and trading that provided oversight management to foreign corporations. 1970-1980: Administrateur Delegue (CEO) of Chanex Belgium SPRL (co-founder) A limited liability company which performed administrative and procurement services for foreign related entities. 1969-1984: Corporate Officer of Chanex International Ltd. (co-founder) A Bahamas corporation engaged in the promotion and management of foreign based operations. 1966-1969: Marketing Consultant to Phil-Am Travel Agency A California corporation which was the largest Pan American Airlines volume seller in the US West Coast. 1965-1966: Japan Airlines Philippines Worked in the reservations and public relations departments of the Manila representative office. COMMUNITY SERVICE Served on over 24 boards in 4 countries that include the University of Texas Austin Career Center, Austin Community College Welding Department, the Belgian Royal Committee Refugees Resettlement, US SBA Women’s Centers, Pacific Rim Technology Transfer Foundation, Co-Asia – precursor to the Texas Asian Chamber of Commerce, Sophia – Philippine Association of Women University Presidents, Special Projects in Tourism and Donations of Medicines in France and Belgium for Gawad Kalinga CONT. page 4

(Texas) Single, optimum health with unusual stamina and capacity for extensive work loads and multi- tasking Mother of 2 adult daughters residing in Texas. Maintains residences in the Philippines and the US Winner of awards including the 1992 Austin Chamber of Commerce Manufacturer of the Year won earlier by Michael Dell; Women of Substance – Texas; Minority Woman Enterpreneur Award – National BOSS and others Experience and Involvements COMMUNICATIONS: 1994 - Recipient of government grant and private funding in the US for the Production of Criminal Justice documentaries to showcase successful rehabilitation programs intended to boost government and civic support of offender reintegration. One was broadcast on Public Broadcast System and now used as material in university courses on Criminal Justice and as library reference in many prisons in the US. Another was used to develop a national program in the US for the hiring of ex-offenders by corporations. 2000-2002 – Producer, Director and writer of TV documentaries in the US and Asia for broadcast and private circulation to donor agencies and to provide information to specialized markets. Subjects include Drug Rehabilitation, Criminal Justice, HIV prevention initiatives, preventative health care based on diet and alternative medicine, Dark Room technology and the use of indigenous and organic materials in fashion. 1990 to present: Articles in various publications, posting on websites in a few languages on a wide range of topics covering energetic healing, conservation, criminal justice, spiritual methodologies and political changes. ITC LINKS: Participated in the successful promotion of Austin Texas as the site of two IT consortiums – MCC and Sematech. Supplied steel to the construction of both facilities and resulted in being solicited by a California IC process group to become a co-founder of a Semi-Sematech start-up briefly in 1986. 1980-1986 – Underwriter of Cybertronics Corporation, R&D that attempted to manufacture hardware for servicing the security needs of multi-unit buildings unsuccessfully. 1996- 1999 Proponent/co-founder of US/Philippine partnership to deliver 4-year BS Computer Science degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology through the Systems Technology Institute (Philippines) with their 70 sites, 140,000 enrollment. Hybrid approach was designed to enable realistic integration of IT within limitations of infrastructure in Developing Countries but resulted in 87% failure rate. 1999- Co-founder of Virtual University Technologies designed to promote distance learning among Public School educators in an island nation setting and explored creation of content for French Telecom subsidiary through TV-based education for mass delivery. 2001- Led initiatives for a Thailand Think Tank to explore expanded use of ITC by small farmers to participate in globalization measures. Involved contacts with MIT Media Lab. 2002- Promoter/Consultant to Philippine cyber cafe operations seeking partnership with local government units in the Philippines to promote greater use of computers by rural residents in an affordable self-funding manner.

SVP & DG SID GARCIA JUDICIAL – VOCATIONAL PROJECT Saturday, July 11, 2009, Paranaque City We also co-hosted the Seminar for the Barangay Justice System under Vocational Service. It was well attended with Mayor Jun Bernabe of Paranaque and other Court Justices.

Tentative venue: Philippine Army Officers Club BULLETIN BOARD MATCHED CLUB AGREEMENT Monday, July 13, 2009, Makati Parks & Garden RCMSL signed a sisterhood agreement with RC Makati Poblacion. Representing RCMSL is Pres. Jing Sarao and PE Ruth Nocum. CP Junjun Binay and Pres. Boy Mijares represented RC Makati Poblacion. The agreement was signed during the induction of RC Makati Poblacion where Mayor Jojo Binay is their guest speaker.
