  2. 2. Fire is the most fundamental element. Since ancient times it has been seen to have a protectivecharacter to ward off evil and symbolized the giving ofthanks for bountiful harvests.
  3. 3. The traditional party in Spain is the celebration in honourof San Juan.It takes place in the evening of June 23.
  4. 4. Bonfires are lit in the streets or on the sand of thebeaches.The rituals are:Jumping over the fire.Touch the water that is blessed in the nightAsking for some wishes, and there are fireworks too.
  5. 5.  In our town, we always celebrate St John”s Eve. It’s theparty that has its origin in the festivals held around thesummer solstice and purification rites associated with it.They usually make a big typical bonfire and next to that,there is a queue where they give a cup of chocolate andsome biscuits.
  6. 6. For children there is a range of activities, but the mostimportant was: They write a wish on a paper and thenthrow it away the fire.There are also rock and pop concerts and at the end ofthe party always sing Basque songs.
