The Camera with Two Views
Two Views Better Than One
If you fancy a slim point and shoot camera with two LCD screens, then Samsung's latest
addition to their digital compact camera family would be something that you should check
out the next time you hit the stores.
Launching three cameras at the land of smiles in Bangkok, Samsung took us through an
experiential tour of their new digital compacts while enjoying the rich and unique culture
found only in Thailand. We managed to test their flagship model while touring Grand Palace.
Do check out some of the test shots in the following pages.
Mr. Kim Jeong Wook, Vice President from Samsung HQ presenting his
keynote at the launch of Samsung's latest 2View digital compact
cameras.
The new ST550 and ST500 compact digital cameras feature an additional LCD screen on
the front of the camera, allowing the user to snap self portraits whenever and wherever they
are. Perfect for the lone traveller or a seasoned 'camwhore', the new ST550 and ST500 will
always ensure a perfectly framed shot, thanks to the added viewfinder on the front of the
camera.
Besides letting you preview the shot from the front of the camera, the secondary screen also
displays a numeric countdown during a timer shot. This would give you (and your friends)
ample warning to prepare for that perfect pose.
Popular Thai actree, Chompoo, has been selected as the product
ambassador of Samsung's latest range of cameras, exclusively for the
Thai market.

The New Samsung 2View ST500, ST550 and ST1000
It's not just the secondary display that makes the new ST550 and ST500 so desirable.
According to Sang Jin Park, CEO of Samsung Digital Imaging Company, "These cameras
are the very first of their kind. The use of digital imaging technologies has evolved and we
are offering functionality and capabilities that no other digital camera manufacturer has yet
addressed."
Indeed, the new cameras come with Samsung's Smart Gesture User Interface and built-in
Gravity sensor. It allows users to quickly access and use key features with either a simple tilt
or hand gesture. It helps too when the LCD touch screen uses Samsung's unique haptic
technology that provides user a slight vibration whenever an option is selected on the
display.
The touch screen and hand gesture technology really simplifies the camera's feature
navigation and usage as all options would be accessible from the screen. This really reduces
the number of buttons found on the camera and options can be selected with the least
amount of keystrokes. The hand gesture capability allows the user to perform simple
operations such as deleting a photo (by drawing an 'X') or rotating an image (drawing an 'O').
Both ST550 and ST500 would be available at the end of August. The key features found on
both ST550 and ST500 are identical except that the ST550 comes with a 1,152K pixel
resolution 3.5-inch touch screen while the ST500 comes in a smaller 3.0-inch 230K pixel
resolution screen.

Besides the ST500 and ST550, Samsung also introduced the new ST1000 which comes
with GPS that allows you to geo-tag your photos, Bluetooth 2.0, Wi-Fi connectivity and DLNA
compatibility. The connectivity provided by this camera simply gives social networking
enthusiasts the ability to share their images easily. However, the ST1000 features only a
single 3.5-inch wide 1,152K display.

A Closer Look at the Cameras
The ST500 has exactly the same features as the ST550 except that it
comes with a smaller and lower resolution screen (3-inch wide, 230K
pixels).
The Samsung 2View ST550 comes with a larger 3.5-inch LCD screen
with 1,152K pixels.
The buttons on both the ST550 and ST500 are minimal as all features
are accessible on the touchscreen.
The camera uses a microSD memory card which is located above the
battery cell inside the battery compartment.
The Samsung ST1000 also feature Samsung's unique touchscreen and
haptic technologies.
Test Shots at Grand Palace
The ST550's 27mm wide-angle lens allows you to capture vast
landscapes.
A test image captured by the ST550 reveals stunning colors and clarity.
The ST550 is capable of macro shots at distances closer than 80cm.
The ST550's amazing super macro feature allows you to get closer to
your subject at distances between 3-8cm.
The Samsung 2View ST550 is capable of capturing at ISO of up to 6400
