Steve Anderson is a Sales Manager for a chain of sports stores in Chicago.
He’s heard in the media that stores in the east of thecity are experiencing growth – and he wants to see whether his own company is affected by this geographic trend.

Steve views a base map.

He adds store addresses and revenue figures for the past 6 months, then analyses the mapped data.

Julie Brown is Steve’s colleague, and a Marketing Manager at the same company.
She’s been asked to run a campaign to get more business from 35-49 year-olds who live in the company’s free delivery area.
Julie wants to see how many customers in this age range live in the area. She’s also curious to see how many people in this age range actually live in the area, to determine whether a targeted customer acquisition campaign might be worthwhile.

Julie logs in and uses the same base map as Steve. She adds a layer of data that shows the free delivery area.

She adds in customer locations, styled so that she can see which age range each customer belong to.

Finally, she displays the age ranges of local residents – again, with each age range displayed in a different colour. Then she analyses her mapped data.
