You should always follow the correct procedure to shut your computer down safely.

The Right Way To Shut Down…
Before shutting down your computer, there are a few things that you need to do first:

Save your work!
Click on the Microsoft Office Button to save your documents.

Save your work in the My Documents folder.

Give your file a meaningful name when you save it, to help you find it later (i.e. not doc1.docx, etc).

Check that you have removed any disks you have been using, (and have put them away!) before shutting down the PC.

Make sure you have closed allthe programs you have been using before shutting down.
If you have forgotten to save any work you will be reminded to do so when you close the applications.

Click on the start icon

Click the “Turn Off Computer” icon.

Click the Turn Off Computer icon that appears in the centre of your screen.
Your computer should now shut down.
