Technology Use <ul><li>Use: The action of using something or the state of being used for some purpose (Oxford American Dictionaries) </li></ul><ul><li>Tools students can employ that supplement their living and learning. Ex: Word Processing, the Internet </li></ul><ul><li>Technology can be used by any individual. </li></ul>
  • 4. Why is technology in the classroom important? <ul><li>Helps prepare students to learn, live, and work in an information eager society. </li></ul><ul><li>According to NETS: “ Within an effective educational setting, technology can enable students to become: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Capable information technology users </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Information seekers, analyzers, and evaluators </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Problem solvers and decision makers </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Creative and effective users of productivity tools </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Communicators, collaborators, publishers, and producers </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Informed, responsible, and contributing citizens ” </li></ul></ul>

Technology Integration <ul><li>Integration: the process of combining one thing with another so that they become a whole (Oxford American Dictionaries) </li></ul><ul><li>Technology integration is “ the incorporation of technology resources and technology-based practices into the daily routines, work, and management of schools.” (National Center for Education Statistics) </li></ul><ul><li>To successfully integrate, must have access and incorporate technology in the classroom, media center, and administration offices. </li></ul>

What’s the Difference? <ul><li>In schools: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Technology Use refers to the supplemental employment of technological resources </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Provides assistance with assignments </li></ul></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Technology Integration refers to using these resources as part of lessons to foster higher level thinking and learning. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><ul><li>Provides opportunity for independence with assignments </li></ul></ul></ul>
