1:8-14but of the Son he says,"Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and arighteous scepter is the scepter of your kingdom. You have lovedrighteousness and hated lawlessness. So God, your God, has anointed youover your companions with the oil of rejoicing.” And, "You founded the earth inthe beginning, Lord, and the heavens are the works of your hands. They willperish, but you continue. And they will all grow old like a garment, and like arobe you will fold them up and like a garment they will be changed, but youare the same and your years will never run out." Are they not all ministeringspirits, sent out to serve those who will inherit salvation? Thank the Lord for all the ministering spirits and angels that God has sent to my behalf.
2:9-12but we see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, nowcrowned with glory and honor because he suffered death, so that by Godsgrace he would experience death on behalf of everyone. For it was fitting forhim, for whom and through whom all things exist, in bringing many sons toglory, to make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Forindeed he who makes holy and those being made holy all have the sameorigin, and so he is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters, saying, "Iwill proclaim your name to my brothers; in the midst of the assembly I willpraise you."
2:14-18Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, he likewise shared intheir humanity, so that through death he could destroy the one who holds thepower of death (that is, the devil), and set free those who were held in slaveryall their lives by their fear of death. For surely his concern is not for angels, but he is concerned for Abrahams descendants. Therefore he had to bemade like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he could becomea merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make atonementfor the sins of the people. For since he himself suffered when he wastempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. Jesus set us free from the realm of darkness and Satan and his demons and now we are heirs to a better promise. We have a mediator on our behalf who understands the struggles of sin.
3:6But Christ is faithful as a son overGods house. We are of his house, ifin fact we hold firmly to ourconfidence and the hope we takepride in.
4:12-16For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any double-edgedsword, piercing even to the point of dividing soul from spirit, and joints frommarrow; it is able to judge the desires and thoughts of the heart. And nocreature is hidden from God, but everything is naked and exposed to theeyes of him to whom we must render an account. Therefore since we have agreat high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son ofGod, let us hold fast to our confession. For we do not have a high priestincapable of sympathizing with our weaknesses, but one who has beentempted in every way just as we are, yet without sin. Therefore let usconfidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and find gracewhenever we need help. Thank you Lord that we have entered into this period where by the blood of Christ I can boldly approach God confident of the forgiveness and cleansing of my sin.
7:25-28So he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them. For it is indeed fitting for us tohave such a high priest: holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, andexalted above the heavens. He has no need to do every day what thosepriests do, to offer sacrifices first for their own sins and then for the sins of thepeople, since he did this in offering himself once for all. For the law appointsas high priests men subject to weakness, but the word of solemn affirmationthat came after the law appoints a son made perfect forever. How great it is that we have a perfect Son who entered with out a sin on our behalf before God and took away our sins and cleansed us and made us perfect before God.
8:6-7But now Jesus has obtained a superior ministry, since thecovenant that he mediates is also better and is enactedon better promises. For if that first covenant had beenfaultless, no one would have looked for a second one. Thank you Lord that you found fault with the Old Law and now we are under a Law of the Grace and Mercy of Jesus who mediates on behalf of our sin.
8:10-13"For this is the covenant that I will establish with thehouse of Israel after those days, says the Lord. I will putmy laws in their minds and I will inscribe them on theirhearts. And I will be their God and they will be mypeople."And there will be no need at all for each one toteach his countryman or each one to teach his brothersaying, Know the Lord, since they will all know me, fromthe least to the greatest."For I will be merciful toward theirevil deeds, and their sins I will remember no longer."Whenhe speaks of a new covenant, he makes the first obsolete. Now what is growing obsolete and aging is about todisappear.
9:11-14But now Christ has come as the high priest of the good things to come. Hepassed through the greater and more perfect tent not made with hands, thatis, not of this creation, and he entered once for all into the most holy place notby the blood of goats and calves but by his own blood, and so he himselfsecured eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashesof a young cow sprinkled on those who are defiled consecrated them andprovided ritual purity, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through theeternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our consciencesfrom dead works to worship the living God.
9:27-28And just as people are appointed to die once, and then toface judgment, so also, after Christ was offered once tobear the sins of many, to those who eagerly await him hewill appear a second time, not to bear sin but to bringsalvation. Thank you God that since I am waiting on the Lord that I will not face the judgment of my sins as Christ faced those for me and bore them.
10:4-7 For the blood of bulls and goats cannot take away sins. So when he came into the world, he said,"Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me. "Wholeburnt offerings and sin-offerings you took no delight in. "Then I said, Here I am: Ihave come - it is written of me in the scroll of the book - to do your will, O God." God desires for Christ to wash my sin away and for it to be repented of.
10:16-18"This is the covenant that I will establish with them afterthose days, says the Lord. I will put my laws on theirhearts and I will inscribe them on their minds," then hesays, "Their sins and their lawless deeds I will rememberno longer." Now where there is forgiveness of these, thereis no longer any offering for sin. Amen! The Law is now written on my heart
10:22-25let us draw near with a sincere heart in the assurance that faith brings, because we have had our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience andour bodies washed in pure water. And let us hold unwaveringly to the hopethat we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy. And let ustake thought of how to spur one another on to love and good works, notabandoning our own meetings, as some are in the habit of doing, butencouraging each other, and even more so because you see the day drawingnear.
11:1-7Now faith is being sure of what we hope for, being convinced of what we donot see. For by it the people of old received Gods commendation. By faith weunderstand that the worlds were set in order at Gods command, so that thevisible has its origin in the invisible. By faith Abel offered God a greatersacrifice than Cain, and through his faith he was commended as righteous, because God commended him for his offerings. And through his faith he stillspeaks, though he is dead. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he did notsee death, and he was not to be found because God took him up. For beforehis removal he had been commended as having pleased God. Now withoutfaith it is impossible to please him, for the one who approaches God mustbelieve that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. By faithNoah, when he was warned about things not yet seen, with reverent regardconstructed an ark for the deliverance of his family. Through faith hecondemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comesby faith.Lord help me to live a life of faith. Have me live a life where I hear Your voice
11:25-26choosing rather to be ill-treated with the people of God than to enjoy sinsfleeting pleasure. He regarded abuse suffered for Christ to be greater wealththan the treasures of Egypt, for his eyes were fixed on the reward.Help me Lord to see the treasures I have in Heaven not the “false” treasures”and the lures of sin on this planet. As even if I had all the money in the world,it would pass away and I would not even take a cent of it to eternity with you.
12:1-2Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloudof witnesses, we must get rid of every weight and the sinthat clings so closely, and run with endurance the race setout for us, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the pioneerand perfecter of our faith. For the joy set out for him heendured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has takenhis seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
12:11Now all discipline seems painful at the time, not joyful. Butlater it produces the fruit of peace and righteousness forthose trained by it. Help me to see your discipline Lord as something that is building peace and righteousness in You Lord.
12:14Pursue peace with everyone, andholiness, for without it no one will seethe Lord. Lord help me to do this.
13:20-21Now may the God of peace who by the blood of theeternal covenant brought back from the dead the greatshepherd of the sheep, our Lord Jesus Christ, equip youwith every good thing to do his will, working in us what ispleasing before him through Jesus Christ, to whom beglory forever. Amen
