This place was located in a warehousebuilding. After the Berlin Wall had comedown, it was taken over by artists, whocalled it Tacheles, Yiddish for "straighttalking“. The building contained ateliersand workshops, a nightclub, and acinema.
First it was a department store, then a Naziprison. It was later partially demolished, and a group of artisans occupied the building.
Huge, colorful graffiti-style murals were painted on the exterior walls, and modern art sculptures are featured inside.
400.000 people a year came hereto see the building and paintings.
