Malayalam poetess Sugathakumari has been chosen for the Saraswati Samman 2012 for her poetry collection ‘Manalezhuthu’. Navneet Kaur Dhillon has been crowned Miss India 2013. Belgian Mathematician Pierre Deligne has been chosen for the prestigious Abel Prize in Mathematics for 2013. Asha Bhosle was conferred the Pandit Hridaynath Lifetime Achievement Award for her great contribution in music. Dr. U.R. Rao has been inducted into the prestigious Satellite Hall of Fame, Washington by the Society of Satellite Professionals International. He became the first Indian to get such achievement. Bollywood legent Pran was honoured with the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke award. Famous Telugu writer Dr. Ravuri Bharadwaja has been selected for the prestigious Jnanpith award for the year 2012. Major Anup Joseph Manjali has been honoured with the Kirti Chakra, the second highest peacetime gallantry award. Ms. Aparajita Dutta of India has been conferred the prestigious Whitley Award, which is known as the Green Oscar by the Royal Geographical Society, London. Hon’ble President Pranab Kukherjee presented the 47th Jnanpith Award for the year 2011 to Dr. Pratibha Ray for her outstanding contributions to Indian literature. Pakistan teen activist Malala Yousafzai has been awarded with International Children’s Peace Prize, a top Dutch children’s honour for her activism regarding girl’s education. Ms. Malal Yousafzai has been conferred the Anna Politkovskaya Award. Liberia’s President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf was conferred the Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace Disarmament and Development for 2012. She is Afrika’s first female President. Ms. Megan Young of Philippines has been crowned Miss World 2013. Bollywood Actor Aamir Khan has been chosen for a prestigious US Award by the America Abroad Media (AAM) for his TV show Satyamev Jayate. Malala Yousufzai and social justice activist Harry Belafonte were named as joint recipients of Amnesty International’s Ambassador of Conscience Award for 2013. Pakistan’s teenage activist Malala Yousafzai has been awarded European Union’s prestigious Sakharov Human Rights Prize. New Zealand author Ms. Eleanor Catton won the 2013 Man Booker Prize for her novel ‘The Luminaries’. Father of Green Revolution in India, Dr. M.S. Swaminathan has been honoured with the Indira Gandhi Award for National Integration. Sristhi Rana of India won the Miss Asia-Pacific World 2013 crown in Seoul, South Korea. Ms. Maria Gabriela Isler of Venezuela has been crowned Miss Universe 2013 in Moscow, Russia.

East Timor’s first feature film, ‘Beatriz’s War’ won the Golden Peacock award for the 2013 best film in the 44th International Film Festival of India. US whistle-blower, Edward Snowden has been awarded with Guardian’s Person of the Year for 2013. BCCI has conferred the Col. C.K. Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award for 2013 on Kapil Dev. Noted historian Bipan Chandra has been honoured with ‘Itihaas Ratna’ by the Asiatic Society, Bihar. Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has been named India’s best international cricketer for 2012-13. Gujarati-poet, Chinu Modi has been conferred the 2013 Sahitya Akademi Award for his poetry book Khara Zaran. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin has presented the Order of Merit to India’s missile-scientist A. Sivathanu Pillai, well known for his role in BrahMos cruise missile program.
