  2. 2. What are the Key changes <ul><li>Entitlement by 2013 to all four routes for all 14-19 learners with common area prospectus. </li></ul><ul><li>GCSEs and A levels. General Qualifications,e.g. </li></ul><ul><li>GCSEs and A levels. </li></ul><ul><li>Diplomas. With an entitlement by 2013 for all </li></ul><ul><li>14-16years olds to the first 14 Diplomas and for 16-18 years </li></ul><ul><li>to all 17 Diplomas. </li></ul><ul><li>Apprenticeships. Apprenticeships-with an entitlement to </li></ul><ul><li>a place by 2013. </li></ul><ul><li>Foundation Learning Tier (FTL). Tier-with an entitlement by 2010 to study one of the progression pathways. </li></ul>

GCSEs and A levels <ul><li>Changes include: unitisation, controlled assessments, more short courses, reduction in number of specification under same title. </li></ul><ul><li>Implications: Discussion with Head of subjects about specification choice, resourcing issues, management of controlled assessments and staff training. </li></ul>

Diplomas <ul><li>Changes: 17 Diplomas, all at 3 levels(foundation, higher and advanced). </li></ul><ul><li>Implications : Concerns about manageability and viability remain( organisational and funding issues, A “strategic responsibility”, collaborative working, change of government, CBI opposition to phase 4). </li></ul>
  5. 5. Apprenticeship <ul><li>Expansion of apprenticeships-target is 400,000 by 2020. </li></ul><ul><li>Apprenticeships at levels 2,3 and 4. </li></ul><ul><li>Convergence between level 2 apprenticeships and diplomas being explored. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Foundation Learning Tier (FLT) <ul><li>For students working below level 2. </li></ul><ul><li>Based on 4 progression pathways to full level ( to full level 2 adult, to independent living/supported employment, to skilled employment, to diploma/GCES). </li></ul><ul><li>To facilitate progression but maintain flexibility. </li></ul><ul><li>Pilots 2008-2010, available for all September 2010. </li></ul><ul><li>Will replace (or subsume)E2E ,First steps, Foundation Learning,KS4 Engagement programme etc. </li></ul>

How is it going to be achieve <ul><li>Through Essential Knowledge and Skills. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience different styles of learning in different environments such as school, college and the work place. </li></ul><ul><li>Experience work in one of the UK’s main employment sectors. </li></ul><ul><li>Flexibility and choice with options. </li></ul><ul><li>High –Quality qualification that will be valued by higher education and industry. </li></ul>

Implication on ICT teaching . <ul><li>Changes to approaches to teaching and learning through out the curriculum. </li></ul><ul><li>Students to study longer. </li></ul><ul><li>It also provide opportunities for specialised training for individuals, for example ICT is seen as a key area in the functional skill initiative. </li></ul><ul><li>Introduction of new courses. </li></ul>
