  2. 2. What is Worldcat.org? <ul><li>“ WorldCat is the world's largest network of library content and services” </li></ul><ul><li>With Worldcat, you can search the catalogues of many libraries, all at once </li></ul>
  3. 3. Why Worldcat? <ul><li>Worldcat is most useful when you have a particular item you want to locate, and you don’t want to search a number of different catalogues to find it. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Getting started <ul><li>Go to: www.worldcat.org </li></ul>
  5. 5. Searching <ul><li>Type a title or author into the search box </li></ul>
  6. 6. Results <ul><li>Lots of results might show up, but not every one will be useful </li></ul>
  7. 7. Refine your search <ul><li>Use the links on the left to bring up only the results you want </li></ul>
  8. 8. Finding the Title <ul><li>When you see the item you want, click on it to see the full record </li></ul>
  9. 9. The Record <ul><li>Great! But now that you’re here, what can you do? </li></ul>
  10. 10. Options <ul><li>Worldcat provides a lot of choices, including: getting the book from a library or Amazon, saving the record for later, sharing the record with social bookmarking, or reviewing the item </li></ul>
  11. 11. Information tabs <ul><li>Tabs at the bottom of the record provide easy access to information </li></ul>
  12. 12. Libraries tab <ul><li>Fill in your location info on the library tab </li></ul>
  13. 13. Libraries tab (con.) <ul><li>This will bring up a list of libraries closest to you which have the item </li></ul>
  14. 14. Reviews tab <ul><li>You can read Amazon reviews of the item </li></ul>
  15. 15. Advanced features <ul><li>Once you’re used to Worldcat, you can create an account to make booklists </li></ul>
  16. 16. Participation <ul><li>Contact your library to see if they are included in Worldcat results, or... </li></ul><ul><li>Search for an item on Worldcat that the libraries in your area are certain to have </li></ul>
