  9. 9. compass• An instrument used to find direction. It has a needle that always points north.
  10. 10. navigation• The study of how to plan and control the course of a ship.
  11. 11. parallels• Imaginary lines on maps and globes that run east and west are the lines of latitude.• Lines never meet, lines always have same distance from each other.
  12. 12. meridians• An imaginary lines that run north and south on map or globe. These lines are also name the longitude.
  13. 13. Prime meridian• The meridian marked zero degree. It runs north and south through Greenwich near the city of London in Britain.
  14. 14. Conclusion• A decision or an idea reached by thoughtful study.
  15. 15. isthmus• A narrow strip of land that connects two larger land areas.
  16. 16. expedition• A journey taken for a special reason
  17. 17. scurvy• A sickness caused by not getting enough vitamin C, which is found in fruit and vegetables.
  18. 18. fact• A statement that can be proved true.
  19. 19. Opinion• A statement that tells what a person believes, and cannot be proved true.
