A comparison of the Norwegian economist's famous 1899 book, "The Theory of the Leisure Class," and his theory of "conspicuous consumption," with modern-day dress codes and standards for women. Written while I was a junior in college at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, this paper was the only one of its kind at the Western Social Sciences Conference. It was presented by my instructor, Dr. Rick Tilman. Only individuals with doctorates were allowed to present at this conference; therefore he presented it for me, and it was extremely well-received.
