    19. 19. Capabilities- social mediaWhether internal, corporate or financialcommunication, social media is becoming moreand more important and can no longer beignored as a key component of any integratedcommunications initiative. As an example, the 2010 second-quarterearnings season saw 150 companies using Twitterto announce their financial results and tweethighlights from their earnings calls.*Today, stakeholders will seek out informationfrom the sources they trust – so it’s up tocompanies to ensure that their stories are beingtold across all of these platforms. Some 70 % ofAmerican journalists use Facebook or Twitter fortheir research while 42 % of analysts andinstitutional investors read blogs to findinformation about companies.**To meet the challenges of this evolvingcommunications landscape, MSL recommends atailored approach that can allow companies tocraft appropriate messaging and to ensure thatthis messaging reaches target stakeholderswherever they reside.*Source: Investor relations on Twitter: 10 great examples** *Middleberg Communication pour la Society for New Communication Research 2009 19 ©2011
