  • 29. how do we do this?! No Cost Sourcing!1 Link Search NOT in Google: Believe it or not, there are some searches that Google can t do as well as others (gasp!). ! ! ! A Link Search allows you to find pages that are linking to another page. Google can do this just fine, but when you add another word to the search, it does not work correctly. So instead, we ll use the search engine Exalead (www.exalead.com/search)! ! ! The best profiles to look for are ones that link to a specific university, or engineering organization, or even other companies! The best thing about a search like this, is your resume keywords can be very simple. !
  • 30. how do we do this?! No Cost Sourcing!1 Example Search in Exalead (www.exalead.com/search) for ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) profiles: !(resume OR cv OR vitae) link:asme.org !

By downloading browser extensions for Google Chrome, your search results are numbered, and more importantly, they can be automatically removed if you don t want to see them!! ! Where are result numbers 2, 6, 7, and 8? !
  • 32. how do we do this?! No Cost Sourcing!1 Google Chrome extensions can blacklist domains that you don t want to see. ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! By automatically removing domains from Google s search results, you increase your Sourcing Machine s effectiveness. !
  • 33. how do we do this?! No Cost Sourcing!1 You can also use an add-on in both Firefox & Google Chrome called Greasemonkey. You can then download a userscript called Google Domain Blocker, which lets you block any domains of your choice. ! ! ! •  In Google Chrome, you want to download the extension called Tampermonkey ! •  In Firefox, you want to download the add-on called Greasemonkey ! •  Once you have loaded them, then go to userscripts.org! •  Search for google domain blocker and add to your browser!
  • 34. how do we do this?! No Cost Sourcing!1 Even a generic search string that brings up results with tons of sample resume sites can be turned into something great:! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! (inurl:resume OR intitle:resume) product marketing" marketing manager -intitle:jobs -intitle:job! ! ! Domains can be selected, blocked and added to a list that you can export to other computers or browsers.!

  • 69. Example exercise of a social job posting!what is the problem?!You need to get your job out to as many people as possible. How do you do this? !
  • 70. Example exercise of a social job posting!what is the problem?!By laying the foundation for your social network messaging, you can create aweb of active and passive candidates that were previously unavailable to you. !
  • 71. Example exercise of a social job posting!what is the problem?! 1 By sending out messages regarding difficult jobs that you sourcing or recruiting for, you can enlist the help of your various networks.! 2 The status messages that you send out will direct your audience to a particular webpage or a specific job on your careers portal.! 3 There are tools that enable one message to be sent to many networks, which is a huge time-saver.
  • 72. Example exercise of a social job posting!what do you need?! 1 Social networks like Linkedin, Twitter, Facebook, Google Talk, Yahoo IM, Google+, Plaxo, etc. (setting these up once is worth it)! 2 The public link to the specific job on your company s careers page. We want to direct people here so that they apply through the job portal.! 3 A URL shortener like bit.ly or tinyurl.com – we want to post the link to your job, but use as few characters as possible. 4 An automatic tool that links whichever social networks that you want to use for your mass postings – Yoono (a Firefox add on) or Friendfeed.
  • 73. Example exercise of a social job posting!what do you need?! 1 You need to be able to convey your message in 140 characters. This
is actually easy to do. The best people in staffing do this all day long!! 2 The posting should have #hashtags related to the company or position. What are these #hashtags that we speak of? They are ways for users to find other similar posts by subject.! 3 Here is an example post: Looking for hotshot storage architects! http://bit.ly/qBw5Kd Solutions
 specializing in archiving, index & search. #jobs #netpolarity !
  • 74. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!1 Start by utilizing the social networks that you do have and signing up for
useful ones that you do not have. ! ! Facebook – Large user base, very good for status postings!
Twitter – Quick message postings that are broadcast in 140 characters! ! Linkedin – Still the best business oriented social network! Google+ – A new social network but is fast growing! ! GoogleTalk, AIM, Y! Messenger – Chat programs that can be used to convey and broadcast your messages to the world.!
  • 75. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!2 Your social network are only as strong as your connections that you have. Make sure you connect with as many of the right people as possible. When talking to candidates or hiring managers, make sure you connect with them through Linkedin. ! ! The more people you connect with, the
greater your network becomes. Even a
small number of connections can lead
you to many others. ! ! Make sure you at least sign up with the
networks listed on the previous page.
Connect with your friends, co-workers, candidates and hiring managers. ! ! Social networks like Myspace or Youtube are not recommended to sign up with, at least at this point (though corporations looking to hire Gen-Y candidates will often create video postings and broadcast them on YouTube). !
  • 76. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!3 Get the public job posting URL from your company s career page.! !

This is the link that you
need to copy. We will ! then create a shorter
version of the URL ! !
  • 77. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!4 Use a URL shortener like bit.ly to save space and track how many people click on your links. !
  • 78. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!4 Now you have a shortened version of the URL that leads to your job on the company s website. Copy this shorter URL for your social network posts.!
  • 79. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!5 In case you are using Internet Explorer as a web browser and still living in the stone age, here is the latest news: ! ! THERE ARE MUCH MORE POWERFUL BROWSERS LIKE FIREFOX AND GOOGLE CHROME THAT YOU SHOULD BE USING. ! ! •  Download either one and start to use it
! •  It will increase your productivity! •  You can customize your web experience! •  You can use add-ons for powerful search tools ! ! One of the add-ons that we will talk about is called Yoono. This add-on will allow us to send postings to some, or all of our social networks. !
  • 80. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!6 Once you have your FIREFOX or GOOGLE CHROME browser installed, then search for either firefox add-ons OR google chrome add-ons in the Google search engine.
! ! You should then be in the Add-ons or Extensions part of the website. You can search for any description of an Add-on that you would like to see.
! ! For our example, we are going to search for an
 extension called Yoono.!
! The following screen shots show you how you would create a posting for publication to the social networks of your choice….!
  • 81. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting! To the right is a screen-shot of the Yoono add-on.
!!You can your login info for Facebook, Linkedin, Myspace,Twitter, FriendFeed, GoogleTalk, AIM, Yahoo! IM, etc.
!!Once you add your login information, you can save it so you
do not have to login again. !
!
  • 82. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!Once you enter your login information, you can view the
updates in one column or in separate columns for each
network. !
Your continuous updates for your social networks are
displayed here. !
  • 83. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!Click the drop-down menu so that you can start setting up yourpost to be broadcast throughout your various networks. !!This is where you will type up your message.!!As with most status messages, Twitter messages (tweets),
and IM status messages, they will be limited to a certain
number of characters (140 is a good number to use and isgenerally accepted).!!Compose your status message update. We just need to bebrief. In other words, put in enough information that will:!!•  Link to the job on your company s website!•  Grab the candidate s attention !•  Allow them to search for similar postings !
  • 84. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!Example post: ! Looking for hotshot storage architects! http://bit.ly/qBw5Kd Solutions specializing in archiving, index & search. #jobs #netpolarity !•  Link to the job on your company s website (use the bit.ly
shorted URL that you copied)!•  Grab the candidate s attention (don t put something boring,
we want our message to be different from the others out there)!•  Allow them to search for similar postings (use searchablekeywords called #hashtags – these keywords can meananything, but if you use ones that are company or job
related, then you allow the candidates to search for more)

As you type your message, this number lets you know howmany characters you have left. Click update when you refinished. You can update one network or all of them. !
  • 85. how do we do this?! Example exercise of a social job posting!Check your individualnetworks to see if the postingis working. !!!Remember that the morepeople you connect with, themore powerful your networkbecomes.!!!Your goal should be toincrease the audience thatviews your posts. !
