  2. 2. Ship<br />America sent a ship, Maine, to the harbor in Havana, Cuba, but on accident, a fire started and it found some gunpowder and exploded.<br />
  3. 3. Cuba<br />Cuba wanted freedom from Spain, so they revolutionized against Spain. The Americans helped fight with Spain, after what they thought was a trap set by the Spaniards on Maine. Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders helped get Cuba their independence and they also took over Puerto Rico as a colony.<br />
  4. 4. Islands<br />The whole war was focused on island countries including: Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Philippines, Guam, and Wake Island who were all colonies of Spain.<br />
  5. 5. Why???<br />Expansionism was growing.<br />America was getting bigger and stronger.<br />Good trade with China and other Asian countries.<br />Manifest Destiny.<br />

HEROES<br />VILLIANS<br />Teddy Roosevelt was a great president and commander.<br />Admiral George Dewey destroyed a Spanish fleet in The Philippines. <br />William McKinley was the president until he got assassinated.<br />Mark Hanna was against Teddy Roosevelt.<br />The Spanish who would not give Cuba their independence.<br />Heroes and Villains <br />
  7. 7. News<br />WARSHIP MAINE SPLIT IN TWO BY AN ENEMY’S SECRET INFERNAL MACHINE- New York Journal<br />McKinley had been assassinated and 42-year old Teddy Roosevelt was named president.<br />
  8. 8. War’s End<br />America made Cuba independent and made The Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Wake Island their territory.<br />William McKinley was assassinated and Teddy Roosevelt became the 26th and youngest president of the United States of America.<br />
