  • D.A.D. and Chardy
    The Spanish-American War
  • Ship
    America sent a ship, Maine, to the harbor in Havana, Cuba, but on accident, a fire started and it found some gunpowder and exploded.
  • Cuba
    Cuba wanted freedom from Spain, so they revolutionized against Spain. The Americans helped fight with Spain, after what they thought was a trap set by the Spaniards on Maine. Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders helped get Cuba their independence and they also took over Puerto Rico as a colony.
  • Islands
    The whole war was focused on island countries including: Cuba, Puerto Rico, The Philippines, Guam, and Wake Island who were all colonies of Spain.
  • Why???
    Expansionism was growing.
    America was getting bigger and stronger.
    Good trade with China and other Asian countries.
    Manifest Destiny.
  • HEROES
    VILLIANS
    Teddy Roosevelt was a great president and commander.
    Admiral George Dewey destroyed a Spanish fleet in The Philippines.
    William McKinley was the president until he got assassinated.
    Mark Hanna was against Teddy Roosevelt.
    The Spanish who would not give Cuba their independence.

    WARSHIP MAINE SPLIT IN TWO BY AN ENEMY’S SECRET INFERNAL MACHINE- New York Journal
    McKinley had been assassinated and 42-year old Teddy Roosevelt was named president.
  • War’s End
    America made Cuba independent and made The Philippines, Guam, Puerto Rico, and Wake Island their territory.
    William McKinley was assassinated and Teddy Roosevelt became the 26th and youngest president of the United States of America.
