  8. 8. PREPARATORY STEPS Strategic Programming: priority setting on a three-year basis aligning implementation with major political initiatives (12 Focus areas). Bi-annual work programmes: 2014-2015, 2016-2017, 2018-2019, 2020 Horizon 2020 Groups: Commission internal preparatory groups ensuring collective approach and consistency. One for each Societal Challenge. DG AGRI co-chairs with RTD the Horizon group for SC2 International Cooperation: COM Communication of September 2012 JTI – Bio-based Industries: COM proposal of 10 July Advisory Groups Calls: to be launched in December (11th) 8
  9. 9. 9 PREPARATORY STEPS of DG AGRI - Creation of the Task Force for Research & Innovation Preparation of a document for discussion: the "Strategic Action Plan" covering the 1st sub-challenge - Close cooperation with RTD and other services for the 2014-2015 Work Programme

The Strategic Action Plan 10  Status  Main priorities include: • Resource efficient and competitive production systems (genetic resources and biodiversity, optimisation of sustainable production systems) • Preventing and controlling pests and diseases • Climate smart agriculture • Fostering the sustainability of Forestry • Balanced development of rural areas

  20. 20.  6 Focus Groups already identified:  Organic farming (optimizing arable yields)  Protein crops  Animal husbandry (reduction of anti-biotic use in the pig sector)  Genetic resources  Organic matter content of soils  Integrated pest management (IPM) The Focus Groups (max 20 experts) To create a forum for sharing knowledge and experience in the field of the Group’s activity To propose directions for research, directions for projects/ideas for OGs, including ways to disseminate the practical knweledge gathered. 20 "The EIP" Focus group
