Chapter 2, Lesson 2.notebook 2 October 03, 2013 Rules for Changing Singular to Plural  1 Add s to most nouns ruin----> ruins building---->buildings 2 Add es to a noun that ends in s, sh, ch,  x, z trench---->trenches dish---->dishes 3 Add s to most nouns that end in o Add es to a few nouns that end in o volcano---->volcanos echo---->echoes 4 For most nouns ending in a y, change the y to  an i and add es When a vowel comes before the y, just add s city---->cities stairway---->stairways 5 For most nouns ending in f or fe, change the f  to v and add es Just add s to a few nouns that end in f or fe shelf---->shelves knife---->knives chief---->chiefs 6 For some nouns, just keep the same spelling deer       buffalo     moose
