  • 1. Mobile 2.0  Wireless devices with Internet connections are changing the landscape of how news is received. Mobile phones are becoming personal computers 
  • 2. By the numbers  200 million mobile phone users in the United States – 70 percent are web-enabled. 4.8 million people pay for the Weather Channel’s mobile  service 2 million people pay $15 a month for a subscription to Disney’s  ring tones, voice tones, wallpapers and video clips.
  • 3. What this means for journalist  Further push for immediacy  Broadening the scope of information that will be considered worthy of an update - in other words, not just big news
  • 4. Delivering the goods readers want  Calendar listings  Sports scores  Top headlines  Weather updates  Traffic reports
  • 5. Discussion  Do you own a Blackberry or iPhone? What about an iPod?  Do you subscribe to breaking news, weather or traffic alerts?  What are the pros and cons of these devices when in comes to journalism?  What’s on the horizon? E-books/Kindle LA Times on Kindle 
