Slide 14: RSS “Really Simple Syndication”  What’s syndication?  It’s the ability to subscribe to a site’s  content Think of a newspaper comic strip like  Dilbert, syndicated to hundreds of newspapers

Slide 15: News Aggregators Aggregators take the “feed” from a blog  and let you see new content Aggregators can be stand-alone apps  OR Aggregators can be web-based 

Slide 16: Stand-alone Aggregators Net NewsWire, Sharp Reader  Nifty integration with your computer’s  browser and can display pics and let you listen to podcasts, etc. Read content offline  Problem: you have to have your  computer with you to read your feeds!

Slide 17: Web-based Aggregators Read your feeds anywhere! All you  need is a web browser & an Internet connection Bloglines, Google Reader, Newsgator  Problem: you have to be online to read  your feeds

Slide 18: Podcasts Taking it to the next step, podcasts are  audio blogs MP3 format  Can be played on your computer OR an  MP3 player Non-proprietary format so are easily  portable

Slide 21: Vodcasts Like podcasts but with video  Generally short - under 10 minutes  (YouTube limits videos to 10 minutes) Format is often Flash (all content on  YouTube is converted to Flash)

Slide 22: Vodcast Share Sites YouTube  Google Video  StumbleVideo  All accept wmv, mov, mpg, or avi  formats for uploading

Slide 23: How to Create a Vodcast Digital cameras are by far the easiest  way to go! Length is only limited by the size of the  storage card Format is usually AVI or MOV, both  formats acceptable to YouTube Of course, digital video cameras are  great, too!

Slide 24: Roll Your Own Searches Rollyo  LibraryThing  WorldCat  All are customizable, easy to create  links for your web page or blog

Slide 25: Web 2.0 & Online Learning Old way: LMS  Blackboard, WebCT, etc.  Password-protected restricted content  New ways  Edu-blogging  Podcasts  Media sharing  Then integrate it!  Angel & Second Life 

Slide 26: Web Apps Old way: Office  New way:  Google Docs & Spreadsheets  http://docs.google.com/  Word processor, spreadsheet  Compatible with Word  Collaborate with others  Free! 
