Advance Features: Building & Vehicles in SL

 1. 1. Adjustments to shapes & objects / creating a ride-able vehicle
-- more advanced things to do in Second Life
2. 2. Make a shape & any adjustments
Test the interesting attributes you can make:
Physical would make this cube drop
Temporary makes it disappear after a defined amount of time
Phantom would let you walk though it
See the basic building printout & the animated tutorials at
3. 3. Add movement to the object
Flexible path lets the object appear to “blow in the breeze”
Test the different effects
4. 4. Objects can give light too; just like a lamp
Adjust the light and its intensity
To test this, click World > Sun > Midnight to see the effect of the light most easily
5. 5. Adjust an image on a “face”
Use the Repeats / Face & Texture Offset to make adjustments of the image
Look at the following slides for the effect of changes
6. 6. Adjustments to the “face”
You can repeat an image based on your settings
7. 7. More adjustments to image location
You can adjust the horizontal and vertical placement too
8. 8. Quick way to make “ride-able” objects
Make a shape/object; this shape is larger for illustration purpose
But by the time you finish, you want to shape to be the size of a small seat
Open My Inventory > click in search area > type Kart
9. 9. Take the script from the Kart
Click-and-drag the Kart onto the ground > right-click on Kart > click the Content option (to the left) > double-left click the Kart term
1. Once you see the arrows on the Kart > click to Content
2. Double-click Kart to open the script
10. 10. Copy the Kart script
Click-and-drag over ALL THE SCRIPT that appears in the Script: Kart window > Ctrl+C
11. 11. Open the script area for your soon-to-be-ride-able object
Right-click the object > click Content > click New Script
12. 12. Observe the initial script
All objects begin with this simple script
Click-and-drag over this startup scripts
13. 13. Paste in the script for driving
Now, with the other script highlighted > click Ctrl+V to paste of the new script
Observe to the left that the script is almost 250 lines
14. 14. Ride the “vehicle”
Once the script is in the object, right-click the object > slide to and click Ride
NOTE: reduce the size of the object since you will be seated in the middle of the object
15. 15. Riding vehicles / making more sophisticated vehicles
Use arrow keys to move; use PageUp to turn over the vehicle
Click the Stand option to get off the vehicle
NOTE: the vehicle moves fast

Buildinga complex vehicle by making and linking all the part, then making a small last object for the vehicle & copy-pasting the script into that object

Click here when you are ready to get off
NOTE: it will take time and practice to make a vehicle that meets aesthetic criteria
