Information vs. Knowledge Society• From Plato’s Republic to E3, NCLB and so on• Information society means cheap, abundant, accessible, distributed, democratized information: 1-click from any one• But, by the same token, knowldge becomes scarce, hierarchized• Knowledge is resistant to egalitarianism• Success of primary school universalization and half failure of secondary school extension

A new form of inequality and power• The Third Industrial Revolution • Massive utilization of information and knowledge • A new form of power: qualification • A new divide: logorich and logopoor • A new ruling class: professional-managerial class• Knowledge society, Long Life Learning and the Matthew Effect• The school of cultural/school capital, i.e. of the professional-magerial class

The school millennium and the attention economy• The overabundance of information provokes a scarcity of attention• Bourdieu and the arbitrariness of school culture/knowledge: from ultimate secret to initial assumption• The school is no longer a/the window to the wider world (it is the screen, now)• The teacher no longer embodies progress

The classroom without walls• ICT is not about new tools, but about new ways of learning• The city and the net have ended with the school’s monopoly of knowledge delivery. The 5P crisis• Web 2.0, SNS and social media entail a new relation to knowledge: from consumption to production• A renegotiation of the content of literacy• The Gutenberg infantry before Internet galaxy• A tertiary digital divide: school / students

Networks for education and teaching• Learning networks: school and other activities, PLE, SNS, communities of practice, etc.• Communitarian networks: one school and its environment: institutions, firms, voluntary associations, wider community.• Professional networks: educators communities of practice, innovation groups, fora, SNS…• Networks of establishments: peer-school coaching, vertical coordination• Technological networks: broadband, mobile devices
