Hitchcock: The master of suspense
1. MASTER OF SUSPENSE
STARTER
To understand reasons why Hitchcock is called the
‘Master of Suspense’.
• How many Alfred Hitchcock films can you name?
I will be able to design a prezi which summarises who Hitchcock was and why
he is known as the ‘Master of Suspense’.
2. He was a pioneer
• He used lighting, music and camera angles to
build suspense in movies in ways that were
not done prior to him.
• He pioneered the use of a camera made to
move in a way that mimics a person's gaze,
forcing viewers to engage in a form of
voyeurism.
• He framed shots to maximise anxiety, fear, or
empathy, and used innovative film editing.
4. Memorable storylines
• His stories often feature fugitives on the run
from the law alongside "icy blonde" female
characters. Many of Hitchcock's films have
twist endings and thrilling plots featuring
depictions of violence, murder, and crime.
• Hitchcock's films also borrow many themes
from psychoanalysis and feature strong sexual
overtones.
8. He was famous
• Through his cameo appearances in his own
films, interviews, film trailers, and the
television program Alfred Hitchcock Presents,
he became a cultural icon.
9. Prezi
• Log onto www.prezi.com
• Set up an educational account using your
school email address.
• Set up a new prezi and call it ‘Hitchcock:
Master of Suspense’.
• You will design a prezi using your research on
why he was so influential.
