Issues for further discussion
1. What do you think about these opinions on reading?
A. Learners can be productively engaged in adptation tasks which result
in the creation of actual teaching materials which can be used in the
same or another class. (Clarke, D.1989)
B. Provided the teacher has the necessary access, and time to select and
prepare, an authentic text can be found for most situations. Indeed it is
possible to construct a [reading] programme based entirely on
authentic texts. (Williams 1984:25)
2. Review the textbook that you are using. What principles for the
teaching of reading do you see at work in the book? What are the main
ways in which you would like to improve the book?
