Introduction to the Key Skills Resources Introduction to the Key Skills Resources Document Transcript

  •
Introduction to the Key Skills Resource
This Key Skills resource contains material for five distinct workshops. The workshops are:
• Working in Groups – 90 - 120 minutes
    • Technical Report Writing - 90 minutes
    • Oral Presentations – 90 - 120 minutes
    • Sourcing Material and Writing a Literature Review – 90 - 120 minutes
    • Preparing for Placement – 120 - 150 minutes
This resource contains all the support material that is needed to deliver each workshop. Included is a PowerPoint presentation, which gives concise bullet points as prompts for lecturers to expand on in their delivery of the material, a detailed student handout, and material for the tasks or suggestions for the tasks. The tasks are provided as stand-alone documents or embedded in the PowerPoint presentations or at the end of the handouts.
The timing for the workshops is based on using the materials supplied with groups of up to 25 students. For larger groups the time will need to be adjusted accordingly.
Working in Groups
The room should be suitable for students to be seated in groups of up to five people.
Technical Report Writing
Room layout is not important.
Oral Presentations
The room should be suitable for students to be seated in groups of up to five people.
Sourcing Material and Writing a Literature Review
The room should have sufficient computers for all the students to have an opportunity to use databases to source material. There is some overlap of material in the handout with that contained in the Technical Report Writing handout.
Preparing for Placement
The room should be suitable for students to be seated in groups of up to five people.
Credits
This resource was created by Glynis Perkin, Loughborough University and released as an open educational resource through the Open Engineering Resources project of the HE Academy Engineering Subject Centre.
