Technology Integration vs. Technology Use

 1. 1. TECHNOLOGY USE VS. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION Elyssa Baker W401 January 30 th , 2008
 2. 2. ARE THESE TWO TERMS THE SAME? OR ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

Think about each term:

What does technology use mean to you?

What does technology integration mean to you?

Do they seem similar or different?

 3. 3. THEY ARE IN DEED DIFFERENT FROM ONE ANOTHER!

Although the two terms may have some similarities, they are in need DIFFERENT!

The one aspect that these two terms hold in common is that they are both used within a classroom.

Other than that one simple fact, these two are very different

 4. 4. WHY ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

These two terms are different because…

In order for technology to be used in your classroom, you must first integrate it into your classroom!

Technology integration is when you integrate something new into your classroom or lessons, and technology use is something that you use everyday within your classroom!

 5. 5. FURTHER EXPLANATION OF TECHNOLOGY USE

Technology use is simply the use of technological products.

This could include every day products such as computers, calculators, televisions, and projectors

Technology use is something you use often within your classroom, therefore you do not need to build a lesson around it to integrate it and teach your students about the technology.

 6. 6. FURTHER EXPLANATION OF TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION

Technology integration is defined as:

The incorporation of technology resources and technology-based practices into the daily routines, work, and management of schools”

by the: The National Forum on Education Statistics

Integration is incorporating technology in a manner that enhances student learning

“ Technology integration is having the curriculum drive technology usage” ( http://www.d261.k12.id.us/Technology/Goals%202000/WEB/INTEGRAT.HTM )

 7. 7.

Don’t be afraid to integrate new technologies into your classroom!!

Once you begin using them on a regular basis, you do not need to integrate it into your classroom anymore!

The new technologies become familiar and soon turn into technology use within the classroom.

 8. 8.

Technology integration can lead to a better educational experience for your students!

It can enhance their thinking and help expand their experiences with technology!

By using different types of technology within your classroom, you will allow your students and yourself to become more comfortable with the technology, and therefore you will use it more often.

 9. 9. ONCE AGAIN…

Technology use and Technology integration are different terms!

They are similar because they both involve using technology in the classroom, but are different because…

In order for technology to be used in your classroom, you must first integrate it into your classroom!
