  1. 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge formsand conventions of real media productsFor my trailer I have mainly applied standard convention which is imperative when creating a successful mediaproduct, although I did disregard some conventions which I believe make the trailer a success. As the genre of mytrailer is Action/ comedy I have to ensure that all the scenes have elements of action and comedy. This meant thatwhen producing our media products we had several different forms that we could consider, we that we couldchallenge some of the conventions of existing trailers. The first element which I had used within my trailer includes adisclaimer which I have applied within my trailer, this can be found in most existing trailers which I have researchedand I believe it makes the trailer more effective, its main duty is to warns the viewers that it is appropriate for allaudiences, so for e.g. The Rush Hour trailer starts of with a disclaimer and it also states who it was produced by, sothis is another aspect which I have included within my own creation. As you can see this is thedisclaimer which I have usedwithin my trailerThis is the disclaimer found inexisting trailers- this is found in rushhour, I decided use similarconventions to make it professionaland ensuring that it stands out
  2. 2. During the research phase I found that action/comedy trailers where short and snappy, this makes the audiencemore excited and thrilled to watch the full movie when it is out, the scenes usually last between 5-7 seconds as thisallows the viewers to get a glimpse of what to expect as this is what it is aimed to do, so taking this intoconsideration I had to ensure my scenes where short clips but had that thrill factor to it, I also had to ensure that mytrailer had a combination of action and comedy as this will allow the viewer to notice and identify this.I also disregarded some of the conventions some scenes where far too long for a action trailer, this was because itwas difficult to cut, however I believe that it does not have an effect on the overall trailer, this was the only elementwhich I disregarded, another component I found common in existing products was the use of ‘dip to black’ this was aeffect which went from one scene to another continuously, as this added the fast paced action which was requiredwithin my trailer, this would ensure that it was related to the genre as well as making it exciting to the viewer.Another similar convention I found common in the trailer was the use of text which flashed onto the screen, this isto add that extra effect which stands out and viewer is interested by it, as this give them a hint of what is expected, this gets them more motivated to watch the full movie when it is out. Another similar convention which I have usedfrom existing trailers is the use of background sound or music, this is to add excitement and stimulation whichshould in turn make them want to watch the movie, I believe I have used similar conventions to existing trailers as itmakes it more professional and interesting to the viewer. As well as this the location in which the scenes wheretaken, this was common in similar existing trailers, like in rush hour where some scenes where taken in derelictbuildings, dark rooms and at times in bright light, this is because it contrasts and is very effective. As you can see thelocations where Ihad taken myscenes and thesimilarities found inexisting materials
  3. 3. From the research and planning I found that the shots used within action/ comedy trailer varied, so Iensured that I did not disregard any conventions otherwise it would not be effective, the shots which Iidentified was close ups, mid shots, over the shoulder shot, wide shot and low angle shots, these arethe shots I found common, I decided to use similar shots which will make my trailer more exciting towatch, In ‘Men in Black’ I found that they used close ups which focuses closely on the actors face, so Idecided to include this shot type as the readers can identify the actors facial expressions and reactionmore closely, In ‘ Rush Hour’ they have used a over the shoulder shot which gives you the view of thecharacters, so I also used this because one of my scenes included the actors breaking into a derelictbuilding and standing behind each other, this worked perfectly as the viewer can get a view of thecharacter .As you can see that this shot typeis similar to the existing trailer onthe left, I believe this shots workswell as the viewer will be able toidentify the facial reactions moreclosely
  4. 4. This is another shot which I used within my trailer, thisparticular shot is an over the shoulder shot whichagain can be seen in the film ‘Rush hour’ this showsthe viewers the actors from a different perspectiveThis was another shot which I used within my trailer,as you can see it is similar within existing trailers, this particular shot is a mid shot which shows thewaist and above
  5. 5. Another similar convention I found is that make some scenes during daylight and at times duringthe dark, this is be because the trailer can include scenes which are joyous and others which arecompletely opposite, it makes the trailer more effective, so I decided to use some scenes in naturaldaylight and others in the dark. I will now show a screenshot to show this. This is a clip from my trailer and one from existing trailersas you can see the two clips are dark which make it moreeffective. These two shotsare taken innatural daylight asyou can see, again I have usedsimilarconventions withinmy own trailer.
