  • 2. <ul><li>Indirect speech or reported speech reports what a speaker said without using the exact words. </li></ul><ul><li>In reporting speech the tense usually changes. This is because when we use reported speech, we are usually talking about a time in the past. </li></ul>
  • 3. <ul><li>Examples: </li></ul><ul><li>He said, “I live in Honduras.” </li></ul><ul><li>He said that he lived in Honduras. </li></ul>
  • 4. <ul><li>“ It is a beautiful dress,” she said. </li></ul><ul><li>She told her that is was a beautiful dress. </li></ul><ul><li>He said, “ I speak English.” </li></ul><ul><li>He said that he spoke English. </li></ul>

He said that he was a lucky person. <ul><li>Simple Past </li></ul><ul><li>Past Perfect </li></ul>They said, “we were at work.” They said that they had been at work -Tom said, “I went to the mall.” Tom said that he had gone to the mall. <ul><li>Present Perfect </li></ul><ul><li>Past perfect </li></ul>-”She has been at home today.” She said she had been at home today -John said, “I have learn to write.” John said that he had learn to write.
