  2. 2.  I have met many young people especially in Ghana who feel as if they are adrift in the world .A key reason that they feel this way is that they havent spent enough time thinking about what they want from life, and havent set themselves formal goals. After all, would you set out on a major journey with no real idea of your destination? Probably not!
  3. 3.  In this slide I intend to take you on a mission that would change your life for ever if and only if you would commit time and resources to it. I want to show you how to set SMART GOALS,because by knowing precisely what you want to achieve,you know where you have to concentrate your efforts and would help you quickly spot distractions that can easily lead you astray. READ, SET GOOOOOOOOO………..!
  4. 4.  A Goal may be defined as the desired results a person wants to achieve.It involves committing time and effort in asking yourself key issues of life. Goal setting is a powerful process for thinking about your ideal future, and for motivating yourself to turn your vision of this future into reality. It is starting a journey with the end in mind,without Goals life becomes meaningless.
  5. 5.  You can set goals in all aspect of life.Goals can be spiritual, financial, or educational. If you are setting a personal goal,the first step is to consider what you want to achieve in your lifetime (or at least, by a significant and distant age in the future). Setting lifetime goals gives you the overall perspective that shapes all other aspects of your decision making. ANY GOAL SET SHOULD BE S.M.A.R.T so what is a SMART GOAL?
  6. 6.  SMART is the acronym for SPECIFIC,MEASURABLE,ATTAINABLE,REA LISTIC and TIME BOUND. This aspect of the slide would focus on setting SMART GOALS.
  7. 7.  Goals should be SPECIFIC. “I want a job when I graduate” is too general. Drill down further to identify more specific goals, revisiting your assessment and exploration. An example of a better goal is, “I want a job with a Big five consulting firm, working at the Capacity building Department and earning $1000 monthly.”
  8. 8.  Goals should be MEASURABLE. It is important to identify clear objectives so you can measure progress towards your goals,the goal you set should be quantified in terms of numbers so that when you get it, you would know. Setting up smaller, measurable goals is the answer. “I will attend five campus recruiting events sponsored by Big five consulting firms” is measurable, as you will know you have reached your goal upon attending five events.
  9. 9.  Goals should be ATTAINABLE. Are your goals reasonable? Are you willing and able to accomplish your goals? It is important to address these questions when goal setting so you don’t set yourself up for failure. In order words, whatever goal you set for your self you should be able to fulfill them.For instance you can not set goals for working in a consulting firm ,if you do not have a consulting firm in your country or location.
  10. 10.  Goals should be RELEVANT/REALISTIC. Your goals should be related to the direction you want your career to take. It is important that your short-term and long-term goals are in sync. For realistic, you can not set a goal to be the President of Ghana(my country) when all you have is a BECE certificate and do not belong to any political party. This is not a realistic goal.
  11. 11.  Goals should be TIMELY. Setting deadlines for achievement of goals will keep you on track. What do you want to achieve and when do you want to achieve it? Seeing the finish line, so to speak, will motivate you to work towards completion of your goals. I want to Be the CEO of XYZ company in 10 years time is a timely or a time bound go as it gives you the impetus to work hard to achieve it.
