How to Study Effectively

  1. 1. 9 Practical Tips for Improving in Studies Copyright © 2014, mr, www.learningforknowledge.com
  2. 2. Tip #1 Listening with Attention   Give your full attention while listening to a lecture/talk on the subject of your study  Listen to audio of lectures/talks referred to you  Make notes of important points; your notes are a reflection of what you listen
  3. 3. Tip #2 Seeing and Observing   Look at drawings, diagrams, tables, or charts shown during the lecture/talk  Observe practical demonstrations carefully and practise them where possible  Watch video of lectures/talks/demos referred to you
  4. 4. Tip #3 Reading with Interest   Read your brief notes after the lecture, preferably within 1-2 hours of listening  Go through prescribed books and reference material  Subject related Audio-Visual aids may be used  Improve and develop your notes combining the above  Highlight in colour - the concepts, formulae and important points
  5. 5. Tip #4 Learning with Understanding   Revise your notes within the next 24 hours  Revise again within the next 3-4 days  This will help you to understand better and retain the knowledge for a longer time  While revising you may listen to soft instrumental music  Take short breaks at regular intervals to refresh yourself
  6. 6. Tip #5 Writing with Concentration   Recall what you learnt by writing down the points  Remember any formulae, technical terms or phrases in the subject, and write them down  Make sure that what you have written down includes all that you learnt  Repeat the above until you get it right
  7. 7. Tip #6 Visualising & Problem Solving   Make your own drawings or charts to reflect the points you learnt  Try to study them and visualise the concepts  For subjects that include problem solving, gain experience by trying to solve them yourself
  8. 8. Tip #7 Discussing with Involvement   Discuss the concerned subject with your friends  Perceive the way they understand and identify useful points  Sharing of knowledge and reflecting with each other improves your understanding of the subject
  9. 9. Tip #8 Questioning for Clarification   Clarify any doubts or questions immediately  Consult your friends, seniors, mentors or teachers  Ensure you get answers to your questions and understand with clarity
  10. 10. Tip #9 Contemplating in Silence   Sit in silence with eyes closed for a few minutes everyday  Just let go of your thoughts and be a silent observer internally  This helps you to feel refreshed and brings calmness of mind  Improves your memory, concentration and clarity  Enhances your ability to study well.
